Re: Christmas Music
Oh man, Jingle Bell Rock is another one that puts me right in the backseat of my parents' car on freezing cold December nights when I was a kid. Great song.
I always loved Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, especially after it's inclusion in Home Alone...

Yeah, love that tune. I ordered this off Amazon a couple weeks ago, we've been playing it pretty much incessantly around the house:

Wow, two pages in and nobody has mentioned Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Which is clearly the best.

Re: Christmas Music
That's a fantastic looking compilation. Ella Fitzgerald's Sleigh Ride is another great one. That one was so much fun to shout along to as a kid.

I'd love to check out your mix. Maybe I'll upload my mix of favorites too. I think it's time to put it back into heavy rotation in my car.

Re: Christmas Music
Asterisked answer to this would be Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Eve, Sarajevo." It's based on the "Carol of the Bells," so it was sort of already in the canon, but yeah.Kevin Davis wrote:Here's something I was thinking about the other day: When is the last time a "new" Christmas song was absorbed into the larger, more widely recognizable repertoire of holiday music?
The best I could come up with was "All I Want For Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey.

Re: Christmas Music
I hate Christmas music. I hate that the same tired music gets trotted out every year, music that I never liked in the first place. I hate that I had to hear this shit music on a loop at every mundane monkey job i ever had growing up. I hate the concept of music created for a certain date on a calender.
Hate.
Hate.
