Christmas/Holiday Movies

Post by Sgt. Crackpot »

List/talk about your favourite Christmas movies.

Without fail, every year I watch with my kids:
  • Santa Claus: The Movie
    A Christmas Story
    The Polar Express
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (OK, my kids don't watch this one)
And sometimes:
  • Bad Santa
    Scrooged
    Die Hard :D

There's a number of classic versions of A Christmas Carol that I always loved

A Christmas Carol (with Alastair Simm) from 1951
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044008/?ref_=nv_sr_3

Scrooge (with Albert Finney) from 1970, a musical!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066344/

two of my favorites... if you've never seen them you're missing something about Christmas

I love the tale/story of Scrooge, but I haven't watched one of the originals since I was a kid. Only the various TV/take off versions that are circulated each year. Perhaps it's time I watched one, and introduced my kids to it too.

the musical includes this, how do you go wrong with a song about thanking someone for dying?

Me and the Mrs. watch a few, pretty much the same ones, every Christmas / Winter Solstice.

Christmas Vacation
Elf
Love Actually (this one isn't my choice, I pretty much hate this movie, but I get points watching with the Mrs.)
Home Alone
A Christmas Story

Some others that aren't necessarily Christmas movies, but they tend to get revisited at least every other year around this time:

Harry Potter (not all but maybe like one or two of them)
The Empire Strikes Back
The Shining
Planes Trains & Automobiles
Scrooged
A Christmas Carol (I like the one from the 50's)
Lord Of The Rings (the first two, I don't like the 3rd as much)
Home Alone 2

Gremlins.

I usually watch A Nightmare Before Christmas around Thanksgiving.

Not a Christmas movie, but I watch it every year, Catch Me If You Can. Probably Spielberg's best post-SPR.

I meant I watch these other movies too now and then, and some are and some are not Christmas movies.
