I just learned it in this thread, too. But I don't think knowing it is going to do anything to my movie-going experience except fill me with hope.

The fact that Thorin dies, I mean.

So Thorin dies does he? Is that what we're saying here?

The thing is, they way they've played him so far, it's like going into the prequels armed with the knowledge that Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader. It's neither a surprise nor a reason for concern...you just wish it would hurry up and happen already.

So he could live or he could die, but only one of those two things.

All the reviews are saying this one ends with multiple cliffhangers.
If they despatch Smaug in this one(unlikely) and let the next one be about the battle of five armies, it could be a good place to have him die at the end of this one. The company losing their leader would be a cliff hanger of sorts.

They might well change it to have the (totally pointless) Azog Orc, kill him.

they take off his kilt and do something unseemly to him offscreen. he rears up and defiantly yells "freedom," at which point Stephen Fry just laughs at him and goes back to narrating Pocoyo

it would be a shame to lock this thread on that post only because the movie hasn't come out yet.

Re: Film: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
Oh dear oh dear.
Let me preface this by saying I'm a huge fan of this franchise and all things middle earth. Just saw the new film. I'm done with Peter Jackson.
It's about an hour longer than it needs to be. It's totally bloated and draaaaaags Painfully slowly in all these totally made up scenes yet skips through key scenes and characters all too fast. Beorn is barely in it. Thranduil is basically an unlikeable c-nt. the Dwarves constant paranoia of people and anger gets really tiresome.
The 3D was atrocious. You cant see anything for the whole second half of the film, its so utterly dark. 3D is a cheap distracting gimmick IMO from now On. Really dont see it in 3D if you want to see Smaug. He looks amazing(i think). Sounds really great. But they almost overplay him and then a ridiculous 'conclusion' to his part. Huge disappointment overall. I have all the extended editions. I won't be buying this one.

I don't know how you can claim to be a huge fan of this franchise and yet be surprised by this. The 4 previous movies are among the most unnecessarily long movies ever created.dimejinky99 wrote:It's about an hour longer than it needs to be. It's totally bloated and draaaaaags Painfully slowly
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?
