My point goes back to what hlniv said about the songs not being challenging enough. LB ain't exactly a Coldplay album.
So other than the removal of a big fat radio hit, what more could a Binaural/RA lover hope for?

If you were looking for a juicy 16oz ribeye, here's a Big Mac.
Seriously!
i think thats kinda being overly critical of the LB songs. its more like you ordered 16 oz ribeye, and they came back w/ 30 huge chicken wings covered in hot sauce.

If that's rooted in Binaural or Riot Act being the benchmark then you might as well be in that googled space image on the album cover.

I like that.
But wouldn't you say LB was less safe than the previous two? And maybe less safe than Yield?

I want PJ to trust themselves and create an album without any sense of self awareness or public perception. They cannot do this with Bo'B.

Again to clarify:
On the whole, I quite like LB. But i have my critiques
I do not like Backspacer. The songs are not enjoyable at all, most are utter turds. And the general direction is not my taste
I do not hate S/T. I think most of the songs are pretty strong (7 or 8), but close listens yield disappointment. They just aren't well done. And there are a couple total shit songs

As far as LB critique, what I would have wanted is:

More risks
More distinguishable guitars
More distinguishable anything
Less flash
Less flair
More full band jams
A complete re-recording of Future Days

that's probably true.

Really I just want them to record things more quickly, more than anything else.

The rest of this (hlniv's list) is all potentially fine, but they aren't really a wishlist for me because pearl jam has great and weak songs that take risks and don't take risks, have more or less flash, more or less flair, etc. It's all execution. And I think they executed very well and, most importantly, consistently well. This is literally the first record since Vitalogy (not counting the weird stuff) where i quite enjoy every single song.

This! This is my main negative complain about their recent output. Everything about it is so on the safe side of things it's bland compared to rest of their discography.
