Rod she said, have I got a little story for you
What you thought was your rod, ain't nothing but a rod
While you were sitting home alone at age thirteen you're real rod was rodding
Sorry you didn't see him but I'm glad we rod

Oh I'm still a rod

Eh, just listened to this and it wasn't nearly as offensive as I thought I might be. The "Rod" is barely recognizable, almost sounds like "Rad."

The different arrangement was the most jarring part of this version. Whatever.

I think this is somewhere between 'OUTRAGE' and complete non-event. I agree that turning this into exhibit A of the decline of pj is quite an overstatement. and i agree eddie wasn't motivated by money. Rodlease was probably a substitution for the unused original music.

what i will say, though, is that there are a handful of pj songs that have generally been considered not fuckable with. i mean, the band (presumably eddie) chose to have the lyrics whited out on the original issue of ten because of their significance. he just could have left this one untouched, as far as studio recordings go, or at least not seriously rearranged the song. that's all.

So you basically you just mean: something that any member of Pearl Jam did, more likely than not Eddie

Right?

Exactly. Something has been done by a PJ member, and we're discussing it now.

i really dont find the rearrangement that bad. i dont like it as much as the original, but i kinda like when artists go back and reinvent their songs by rearranging them. its certainly not anywhere as embarrassing as changing the lyrics to fit a character in a fucking movie. thats just pathetic.

well, 95/96 Jeremy was a cool rearrangement. 06 Garden, 03-05 In My Tree, not so much. But those are live...this is studio.

And accordingly can really only assess said output as either a) an outrage or b) a complete non-event or c) fanboi

Anything in between?

This does open up the possibility of Ed doing an entire album based on characters from a movie. I'm hoping for Pacific Rim.

Technically Can't Keep and SBM will fall into that category as well for being in studio but that's Full band>Ed Solo and then a Ed Solo>Full Band

As this was not output by the band at least I can be assured it wont result in outrage
