There are lots of bad songs on the last three albums, but for me, probably only three to five unlistenable ones.
Supersonic is the only song from the last 3 albums I never want to listen to. S/t has a few that are close
Strangely, considering I don't like the song, I'm going to defend it. Supersonic achieves it's goal of a light riff-tastic pop song. Big Wave too achieves the goal they were reaching for. I can't say the same for LTRP (i've only heard it in it's entirety twice). Am I wrong?
Yeah, I'm just bored of defending PJ songs by saying 'It achieves its goal.'

So did Hitler.

Ironic that pearl jam would enter its anti Semite phase during the moneygrab

I like both songs and I don't hate the sequence.

I like the composition of "Big Wave" fine. It's got a momentous amount of energy, a cool if not particularly inventive riff, and I think the "I feel the need..." part (would that be considered the chorus?) is some pretty good ear candy. But the lyrics are absurd, and I don't think it fits even a little bit into what I've always interpreted to be an album primarily about the jaded state of the country accompanying George W.'s presidency and the height of the Iraq War. I can enjoy the song for what it is, but not what it brings to the table.

I think "Gone" is a terrific song, personally. I understand the objections people have to it, I guess, but I've never shared them. I'm a total sucker for that whole Springsteenian escapism angle in songwriting, though. As someone who's been hopelessly addicted to travel throughout most of his life, particularly as a means for soul-searching, I appreciate that Ed has taken it upon himself to appropriate the "car song" over the years, and I think "Gone" is the best of the bunch--certainly the most moving, anyway.

That's funny. I think "Big Wave" is one of the only songs on S/T that isn't a completely generic turd.

So... Backspacer. Doesn't appear to be a big fave of those on the forum.

Regardless: RANK EM!

Lol this shitfuck of an album. The speed of sound demo is the only thing off this album i listen to with any regularity so thats why its at the top. The studio version is awful though so if i was doing it properly speed of sound would be under force of nature...i think, or under amongst the waves.

I wish the end was a tad less melodramatic. And eddie sang 'slide on next to me' instead of 'slighghk on next to me'.

I relistened to just breathe to remind myself what it actually sounds like and i like it alot more than i remember, maybe it should be higher.

I love this album so much. Except for supersonic. And Speed of Sound is okay.

Force Of Nature (Backspacer, 2009)
Gonna See My Friend (Backspacer, 2009)
The Fixer (Backspacer, 2009)
The End (Backspacer, 2009)

Johnny Guitar (Backspacer, 2009)
Just Breathe (Backspacer, 2009)
Amongst The Waves (Backspacer, 2009)
Got Some (Backspacer, 2009)

These 4 are all kinda interchangable. I'd give everything up to this point 4 stars

Unthought Known (Backspacer, 2009)

Speed Of Sound (Backspacer, 2009)
Supersonic (Backspacer, 2009)

Amongst The Waves (Backspacer, 2009)
Got Some (Backspacer, 2009)
Supersonic (Backspacer, 2009)
Speed Of Sound (Backspacer, 2009)

This made me realise just how light this album is. There's nothing to hold on to on this one - not one of these songs make me think "Ooh, I should listen to that right now". Speed of Sound Demo would probably be in the top 5 of this list.

This was probably the most difficult one yet for me. Virtually all of these songs are on that same middle-of-the-road, "I don't love it, but I won't exert the effort to change it" level for me. I like "Force of Nature" and "Johnny Guitar" quite a bit, though.

I don't hate this album as much as some people do, but not one I listen to very often. Didn't care much for "Amongst the Waves" until I saw it live; then I was sold. "Got Some" is a great Devo rip off.
