Re: silver linings playbook
Great. So if we've dealt with it but felt that, for all that this was a pleasant movie, it was totally removed from the reality of it all?

I know you don't mean it this way, but I find it a little insulting that you seem to infer that people who weren't impressed by this movie are people who haven't suffered through debilitating mental issues in themselves or their immediate circles. That's certainly not the case for me. I find it kind of similar to the "Sirens" defense. One thing has nothing to do with the other.Lament wrote:Whatever. I loved it. It was stunning to me how much of it (probably things that critics of it have dismissed as being "silly") reflected things I've gone through both with myself and with my immediate family. But if not "getting it" means you've never dealt with any of this stuff, then I'm genuinely happy for you. For what it's worth, everyone I know who's dealt with the kind of issues addressed in the movie loved it as well.

This movie is a bigger hot button issue than anal.

I got puked on by an 18 month old while writing, but bravely soldiered on. Amazingly, the puke refused to stop, reaching milk jug like proportions and coating all my spaggheti. It became distracting. Errors in my post are now fixed.Sgt. Crackpot wrote:McP, is your beanie a little too tight?

I appreciate you trying to stick up for me platy. That said, I totally think that anyone who liked this movie is a big dumb-dumb poopy-head, especially Chloe.

I saw this a couple nights ago for the first time and enjoyed it thoroughly. Although I did think there was nothing special about the ending.

If there's one thing that most RMers can relate to it has to be debilitating mental issues.

I liked it, there were little moments throughout that I really enjoyed, and that's the type of thing I'm into. Just like with anal, it's the little things that make such a big difference.

Re: silver linings playbook
It's not the best thing I've ever seen or anything like that. Not David O. Russell's best, even. But there's a lot to like about this one. Big fan.

Re: silver linings playbook
What the balls is the "Sirens" defense? Like, if you don't like it, it's because you've never been in love and don't "get it"? Or you didn't live through the 80's? Or what?theplatypus wrote: I find it kind of similar to the "Sirens" defense. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Re: silver linings playbook
i mean, when you cast two bonafide sex symbols as the leads, it's not going to be the most grim and sober take on mental illness - which, though i haven't read it, i believe is the tone of the book it's based on anyway. this movie was never meant to be taken too seriously or commended for its realism, and the casting is an obvious tip off that it was meant to appeal to a wide audience. for what's essentially a popcorn flick, i commend it for the balance between light hearted and heartbreaking. well done.

Re: silver linings playbook
Ya know, the whole mental health aspect of the movie never seemed like the point to me. I'm not sure what that says about how successful the film is.
