There's a lot more of these good maps here:

But I just want to post one of them in here and simply say: LOL Utah.

The New York Times made those dialect maps into a quiz. Glad to confirm that my tongue is distinctly Northwest--I hope the same is true for Brandee.

I don't expect these are hard to get right, but they nailed a distinct location for me. The picture doesn't show it, but they had southern Worcester County highlighted when I had the map close-up, which is dead nuts.

Also, lol.

When I was in Worcester (a word that I still can't pronounce properly), I got made fun of for my roundabout talk. But I was made even more fun of for calling all controlled-access roads freeways ("they aren't free!", I was told).

This should start it clean:

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013 ... z-map.html

It's not on the quiz, but I'm sure that given where you are, the term "Washington State" isn't used to refer to the university in Pullman whose football team committed an epic choke job earlier today.

Hahaha... Wistuh works. I suppose if you're from the great northwest, you could pronounce the R, and get away with it. Just no "Worchester," please.

I laughed about the "freeway" thing too. Oh, to be a Massachusite. We're such assholes.

When I was in college, one of my dormmates was from Massachusetts, and when she told me this, it struck me that I didn't know what you would call someone from that state. ("Massachusetts..ian? That doesn't sound right") I asked her, and she perfectly deadpanned, "Oh, Masshole."

Yeah, that used to be fun until 1/4 of the population got 'Masshole' bumper stickers. Now, it's only second to trailer hitch ball bags.

Welp, I did the quiz and it gave me a blank spot where the map should be. Maybe it just doesn't like Chrome.
