lol i actually found it comical that scene bothered so many people so much...
it happens, A LOT in movies

House of Flying Daggers, a chinese produced, kungfu movie... was shot almost entirely in the Ukraine
I could see if they showed a shot of the Statue of Liberty and said "San Francisco" or, the Golden Gate Bridge and had it in Chicago? or, "London" with a nice shot of the Eiffel Tower... or some other sort of famous site / city... that might be a lil more troubling lol.

the accent though... thats pretty lame... but then again they didnt bother to get a Brit for Emma, nor an irish lass for Moira, a Texan played Silverfox... so on so on.

I don't think it bothered many people. I know that films shoot where it's most economical and convenient, but when you live in Argentina and you see an on-screen caption that says the scene takes place in Villa Gesell, which is a beach town... but instead there are these mountains... and also Spanish music... and also they speak in a Mexican accent... and use Mexican slang... it's understandable that it's going to take you out of the scene.

Given the context of the scene, it's not as likely as the filmmakers just calling the first Hispanic Bartender from Central Casting because they don't give a shit about what a small portion of the audience is going to think.

you might need to go back and apply some ad hoc capitalization later...

And to be clear, I didn't like the movie. I thought it had a lot of story problems, I thought the climactic final battle scene was really weirdly edited and depleted of any drama or tension, and I thought it sucked that every character not named Erik or Xavier (and to a lesser extent Mystique) was such a cardboard cutout. The Villa Gesell thing stood out for me because I'm in Argentina and the entire audience started laughing when that happened. Otherwise, I'm totally game for surrendering to the film diegesis and ignoring the minute details of geography or topography. The only reason I'm still talking about it is... well... because other people brought it up.

What context, a bartender in a bar that has 2 lines doesn't have a backstory? I know if it was marvel studios he likely would have his own trilogy, but unfortunately fox doesn't do that unless your name is an austrailian accented wolverine.

I meant the fact that they got everything else wrong. I don't think any thought went into the casting of that bit part.

That Argentina scene, was one of the best scenes in the movie too (for us non Argentinians)
Other than Xavier and Erik though, the rest of the characters were pretty stiff. X-3's Beast was a far better performance than the one in First Class (not just because he LOOKED beter)

and lastly... Wolverine, originally was going to be an Australian ex-patriot living in Canada, dont believe me? well check this out, the pilot for the 90's animated Series!

haha forgot, Dazzler was in the pilot episode!
not to mention Kitty, Night Crawler, and Colossus. (and Thunderbird appeared on 2 episodes of Spiderman around the same time with the same cast/voice actors of the X-men Pilot... far different roster)

oh and Stan Lee as a narrator!

I feel like this had the potential to end up great, with the right contributors....and instead we ended up talking about the X-Men.

could barely stand to look at it

how anyone could find you funny is beyond me
