I'm not a US accent expert what is Ed's? His vowels sound weird even when he's talking. I know singers with strong accents retain them when singing i was wondering if it was related.McParadigm wrote:Still manages to do a little Vedder Vowelling in there, though.

Not all of them obviously, i didn't articulate that well. Both Ike and Tina retained a lot of their accents... Janis Joplin's Texas accent was also there. This are strong accents so i can tell them. Some singers pronounce j or y consonants in a weird way like Whitney Houston I will always love jewMcParadigm wrote:Mine wrote:I know singers with strong accents retain them when singing i was wondering if it was related.

So this thread is what "general praising" looks like on RM...

No...I'm utterly confused...

I heard I Believe in Miracles from Philly and thought it sounded great. They should play this cover more often.

They've actually played it more times than they have played Smile, Rats, Sad, or Alone.southp wrote:I heard I Believe in Miracles from Philly and thought it sounded great. They should play this cover more often.

I'm liking the fact that the 10C is doing monthly newsletters with contests, etc.
I know they take a lot of heat, but I can only assume this thing is not run by a bunch of MBA graduates, so all things being considered I'm quite happy with the current 10C offering.
If there is anyone that remembers the snail-mail-only days, it was like Christmas morning when you got something in your mailbox from the 10C (aka VHC). The one that stands out the most is that origami-style newsletter from the No Code era... very cool shit. But none was as exciting for me as this order form that allowed me to buy tickets to my first PJ show in Toronto back in 1996:
$41 well spent!

20 years later and what you used to pay for two tickets will barely get you 1/2 of 1 ticket now

Just heard the re-recorded version of Release and I can't get over how amazing Ed's voice is. He still has some great power and control. Also, I was anxious at the idea of re-recording a classic but I actually really like it. Definitely a nice little Xmas present to hear this today and it makes me wonder what other old tracks might sound like with redone vocals.

He sounds very good indeed. I know his voice has lost power and all, but goddamn he still is one of the best singers out there for sure.

Came home from a late hockey game last night (Hey, I'm Canadian eh) and my girlfriend had the stereo going with a random playlist that was blasting I Am Mine... she said "why don't you ever play this one for me, I really like it!"

im gonna say changing the lyrics to a classic song shouldnt be praised, but to each his own i guesssouthp wrote:Just heard the re-recorded version of Release and I can't get over how amazing Ed's voice is. I checked the box on that sheet for my first PJ show ever, too, at Savage Arena in Toledo.
Good times.
They even printed your name on the ticket when they sent it to you.
The only ticket I've ever done a good job actually saving

He does it every night in concert for a lot of the older tracks. I don't see a big deal. Either way it's the vocal performance that deserves praise.warehouse wrote:im gonna say changing the lyrics to a classic song shouldnt be praised, but to each his own i guesssouthp wrote:Just heard the re-recorded version of Release and I can't get over how amazing Ed's voice is. singing a song differently in front of your fans is entirely different that rewriting a classic song to include a fictional characters name from a movie. i also think is obvious from his voice this was rerecorded. he doesnt sound the same.southp wrote:He does it every night in concert for a lot of the older tracks. I still have my tix with my name on it from that tour, along with the piece of foam I ripped from the front row at Randall's Island in 1996. Unreal. Good times. I believe Jack Irons designed those tickets.hlniv wrote:Memory lane.southp wrote:I'm liking the fact that the 10C is doing monthly newsletters with contests, etc.

From Pollstar: Top grossing concerts in 2013, ranks artists by average box office gross per city and includes the average ticket price for shows in North America.:
1. Bon Jovi; $1,518,974; $93.32.
2. Pink; $1,487,913; $88.08.
3. Pearl Jam; $1,265,566; $69.64.
4. Kanye West; $1,120,289; $87.15.
5. Drake; $913,211; $77.40.
So though we complain about the price increases, they aren't exactly the worst in business right now.*
