I can't imagine who made mine.
I'll try to post a full review later but it's so relentlessly awful that it may take some time, I daren't submit myself to it all at once.

Enjoyed the portion of my mix I was able to get through (about a third of it) before family interrupted. Hoping to have a full review up by the end of the weekend.

We'll be able to download/stream all of the reviewed mixes at some point, right?

I think we got through about 6 or 7 songs on the drive tonight and im loving it so far, so mellow and beautiful, and though a lot of the artists sound familiar, i don't know for sure who any of them are yet. Should get through the first listen tomorrow, then will give it a couple of spins with headphones and then will try to write up a review.
But i will say so far i give a

Re: ::REVIEWS:: 2013 Secret Mixtape project
8.5/10
The more I hear Baroness, the more I like them. I skipped The Sword, too nerdy. Next, a Fugazi track from my favorite Fugazi record and some always welcomed Wellwater Conspiracy. God damn it they were a good band...
Manic Street kind of sucked, I mean the mix already has Freddie Mercury, no need for a knock off; Opeth sounded like Bob Weir doing metal. Sometimes I think Mastodon gets a bum rap, and this track kind of proves that. It's good. Then we close with Clutch and Sleater Kinney. Sounds like a dream gig, huh?
Great job. This is an unpretentious, rockin, lean 45 minute, no-bullshit mix.
Thanks for taking the time to craft this.
Was this Fuzzcharger’s?

Yeah, I am. I kinda figured it'd be pretty obvious, but I didn't want to be obtuse for the sake of being obtuse. I at least tried to keep the female dance-pop to a minimum though...zeb wrote:Lament, are you my DJ?

Re: ::REVIEWS:: 2013 Secret Mixtape project
Out of curiosity, how far into the mix was it before you were finally tipped off? I had a hunch the first song would give it away (either that or that I'd mess something up and leave identifying data in the file info).

Re: ::REVIEWS:: 2013 Secret Mixtape project
So I realized that the person who I thought made this mix is not even in this contest. I was also basing it on the 4-5 artists whose tags weren't removed properly and either way I misjudged the mix altogether. It's kind of a hot mess. Some really nice tracks mixed with some not nice ones. It barely flows and some song transitions are rather rough but I do sense some sort of all encompassing fluidity. More on this later....

I'm so predictable it hurts some times. Oh well, hopefully it won't be too excruciating to sit through. I apologize if it is though.zeb wrote:First song.

Also, for what it's worth, I accidentally flipped tracks ten and eleven when I labelled them, so if the flow seems off there, that's why.

Re: ::REVIEWS:: 2013 Secret Mixtape project
Alright, fine. Let’s get this done. Like a band-aid, right off.
“Intro” – the XX:
“L.I.A.B.” – Onra:
“Scenic World” – Beirut: almost physically repulsive
“Over the Love” – Florence and the Machine: even worse
“Crown on the Ground” – Sleigh Bells: deeply unpleasant
“Latch (Album Version)” – Disclosure: (26 sec skip)
“Wildfire” – SBTRKT: (37 sec skip)
“Happy Up Here” – Royskopp (5 sec skip)
“Sultan’s Request” – Flying Lotus: look, this isn’t really my thing, but it’s better than anything else on this mix by miles
“Soldier” – Erykah Badu: *shrug*
I could imagine someone uncritically tolerating this largely featureless, unremarkable collection of sounds as they might the reassuringly bland artwork in a doctor’s office but to express genuine preference this music, above all other potential options, is frankly mind-boggling.

I feel like that post should end with the clip of Scarlett Johansson on Saturday Night Live saying "THIS IS LITERALLY WORSE THAN THE HOLOCAUST."
Also, Crown on the Ground is good.

Re: ::REVIEWS:: 2013 Secret Mixtape project
I've only had a quick listen to my mix but I'm about to have a dedicated listen. I'd just like to say I already appreciate the effort my mixer has gone to. A single mp3 track, 42 minutes in length and I'm guessing they've done a little bit of homework based on my forum posts in making their track selection to cater to what they think I'd like. Some artists I've openly dug on here plus some other tracks I've never heard of that compliment the known favourites. Thank you sir/madam, your care and consideration has not gone unnoticed.
Proper review coming soon.
