So they're doing this without Ed? Sounds a lot like Backspacer part 2.

I use to say that BS is almost Eddie Vedder and the Pearl Jams.
Mostly of the songs are Eds songs, and buncho of the other he "Put a bit of fixing on it".

I really hope that the next album have less Ed, and more of the Pearl Jams.

This album is going to suck regardless. Pearl Jam's problems are a lot deeper than just "well if ed had less control it would sound awesome".

Pearl Jam doesn't care anymore. This isn't their passion. It shows.

I can get behind this statement.
Though, I still think that they can show us some good stuff yet, of course, is not going to be fantastic, but they still can give us fun songs to listen too.

I hope they do, since I tend to enjoy post-2000 pearl jam than pre-2000 Pearl Jam.
And I do think that everybody is Eds bitch, and if Ed to do what the band want, and not messing arround with their songs, something really intresting can come up.

Stone and Jeff still can make really good songs.

empty pointless statement from mike considering they haven't given anything to ed yet, or heard what he's got.

In my mind they are all hanging out in a warehouse somewhere in the SoDo district of Seattle, waiting for Ed to show up on his skateboard. Or is that Jeff?

I am going to take the opposite view and say that perhaps it is more they didn't want to just put out any old thing so they are waiting for the muse. I think they still have a passion for music as a band but perhaps they are just not happy with what they've been conjuring up and that's what is taking so long. They may also have fragments of ideas they think are good and they are letting them gestate so when they reconvene they bring something new to add to a song, or come up with better ideas on where the fragments go.

I also think Mike McCready sounds like he's talking about just about any Pearl Jam album out there - actually sounds like he is talking about Binaural, which I've always seen as a logical follow up to Yield with a more experimental Pink Floyd-ish vibe ("Nothing As It Seems") and punk rock songs ("Grievance").

I am quite agitated by the length of time it is taking - and sadly the longer it takes the more pressure there is to deliver. This next album will likely cement in many fans' head where this band is going from here on - will they be a nostalgic band relying on past glory coming around every half decade to present us with decent, but ultimately unmemorable songs (a la Rolling Stones in the last quarter of their career), or will they bring a newfound relevance to us and create career defining sounds once again (a la Bruce Springsteen The Rising, Magic, Wrecking Ball)? Sadly, once you've been around long enough, you end up in one of those categories.

I wish people would stop reporting what Mike says. Nothing he says ever turns out to be true.

as much as i'm a big Pink Floyd fan, citing them as an influence is pretty vague. does that mean guitar solos soaked in reverb? ultra-slow beats? wild psychedelic excursions à la Interstellar Overdrive? conceptual stuff? musique concrète? tape-delay? long songs? Syd Barrett-ish songwrting? heavy LSD intake? depression? 80s over-production? lasers?

I overheard Eddie Vedder say in December "I have become comfortably numb" - I am not sure if that was in the context of talking about how far along they were with the album, what direction they were taking, or if it was some other context...

I see Ed quite often since I live in the same area. Next time I see him at the grocery, I'll ask what's up.
