Why is this being mentioned at all, let alone in a mixtape thread? There's a RM with Kids thread or you can PM me.

i'm not really into funk, like.. at all, so this wasn't really my thing.

i liked the more jazz-y moments of this mix. i'm much more into jazz than funk. there was also some hip hop in there which i didn't enjoy. this mix was certainly not catered to my tates. that's ok, i don't mind a challenge but this is kind of all the music i don't like listening to in one mix. there were some cool moments in there for sure, but nothing i'd return to again.

sorry guy.

and varis, fuck you for figuring out i did your mix within 10 seconds of listening. :P
Haha :-) Sorry man! I thought rather than do something obvious or try guess what else you might like I'd go straight for the universal pleaser with rhythm as the central point using old school r'n'b, soul, 70's funk instrumentals etc. I'll post up a track list and link later.

It's cool. I can see it maybe sinking in with some more listens.

OK, so my mix review. I listened to this the other day when mowing the lawns and enjoyed the feel and flow the whole way through. There were some songs that I knew and most that I didn't. I've listened a few more times since and the mix has held up as a good mix should. 12 individual tracks which I'm glad of - I'm not a fan of the 'single track mix' idea.

So, first song and straight away this is Shark Fin Blues by The Drones. The song is in the discussion for best song of all time, so for sure this is a fantastic start. And yeah, I know that wtob made this mix. All good.

Second song and we have the cool bass build with the drums front and centre. Not sure who this is but I like it. This song has proved to be a bit of a grower with me.

Next up is a shoe-gazer number, pretty sure this is MBV at a guess. Assuming it's them, never been a big fan, although I have tried. The track's not my thing but it fits the flow the mixer's going for here.

Into the next and the flow continues nicely with a familiarish female vocal and a great drum line through the song. Not sure who this is but I've def. heard them before. Nice track.

Next up this is the Grates with Aw Yeah. I like these guys and will admit to a bit of a crush on Patience Hodgson. This is a great tune - I love their take on garage-pop.

Now we have a transition into some smoother, ambientish stuff. This type of music done well can be really good, and this is. Sort of come down music for a late night or easy Sunday morning. I get the feeling that I should know who this is but don't. It almost sounds like it could be Nico singing, but of course it's not. This is a really great track.

OK, onto something else now. It's Sunday afternoon and I'm on my way to the Sunday Session! This is the Naked and Famous Punching in a Dream. Good song and one to play loudly. I do actually feel like having a beer now!

Next back to a bit of dreamier stuff again. I'm not a huge fan of the breathier back of the mix vocals generally, although this tune doesn't suffer as badly as some from it. With headphones on I can make out the majority of what's being sung. Generally this isn't my thing, although there is an underlying Stone Rosesie kinda dreamy thing going on here that sort of works for me. This one is an interesting one.

This one had the tag left on - Radiohead's Separator. Can't miss those vocals regardless. Nice song, again fitting the vibe of the mix well.

Another smooth building tune now, got that little bit ominous thing going on too, that works well. This is a bit spacey and atmospheric, building till the guitars kick in and it goes a bit 'Musey' (but thankfully not reaching that level of bombast). Then the fingerpicked outro just brings it all back from the precipice beautifully. Nice. I think all mixes require an instrumental or two.

Oh! Can't miss the e-bowed (?) chords here, and certainly not the vocal. This is The Drones again with Nine Eyes. "What kind of arsehole drives this lime green commodore" indeed? Great song from a great storyteller. Broke a mix tape rule here though with a second song from the same band, but I'll forgive you.

OK, track 12. This one's longer and is the big closer. No idea who this is but it has some nice things going on at the start. The big climb to epic get's to me a bit in the end though.

Thanks adam, that was a great mix. Some great tunes and well sequenced, the mix having a good flow throughout. I'm interested in the tracklisting here and will for sure be checking a few things out because of it.

Cheers!

It came as one track because platy made it that Way. I'm not digital enough to submit this shit in my own format so I passed that responsibility on to him. And thank shitmas he was able to get it to you because I sure as night wouldn't have been able to. So, your thoughts?

To the man that made my mix: I just got home (2:33 am Sunday morning) from a long trip detached from electronic communications. I will listen to your mix when I have a chance tomorrow ( likely Sunday afternoon). Sorry for the delay, and thanks for your patients.

I've gone through my mix once, and I have a 5 hour car ride ahead of me today for another listen or two. I will be reviewing it, whoever put this together, but I may not be able to write up a proper post until we're back from the New Year (so wed. or thursday more likely)

platy, if you wouldn't mind e-mailing me the tracklist now that I've listened I'd be grateful. Otherwise i'm just going to be goggling random lyrics to try and figure out what each song is called and who it is by.
