i'm not sure who their coach will be, but Houston picking Clowney to rush opposite Watt would be fun.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:Any chance clowney could make it to #7?

Clowney is reminding me a lot of Mario Williams at this point in his career. Incredible talent but a bit of immaturity. I mention this because the Texans once passed on QBs to take Williams first overall.elliseamos wrote:i'm not sure who their coach will be, but Houston picking Clowney to rush opposite Watt would be fun.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:Any chance clowney could make it to #7?

Most notably passed on Reggie Bush there as well.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
and passing on vince young (bridgewater anyone?) was the right choice. can't think of who'd be similar to reggie bush in the this draft, but the point has been made i think.@SkitchP wrote:Green Habit wrote:Clowney is reminding me a lot of Mario Williams at this point in his career. clowney made one big play and everyone in the media acts like he is a lock. course as noted above vince young was a lock too. he was just as good a qb as matt leinart when it came to the pro's.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
interesting that houston passed on both of them in the same draft. looking back at things, they drafted really well that year:Peeps wrote:clowney made one big play and everyone in the media acts like he is a lock. course as noted above vince young was a lock too. he was just as good a qb as matt leinart when it came to the pro's.
1st - Mario Williams (DE), 2nd - DeMeco Ryans (ILB), 3rd - Charles Spencer (OT), 3rd - Eric Winston (OT), 4th - Owen Daniels (TE)
Spencer being the only miss.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
And Spencer wouldn't have been a miss if he didn't suffer a horrific leg injury early in his career.elliseamos wrote:interesting that houston passed on both of them in the same draft. looking back at things, they drafted really well that year:Peeps wrote:clowney made one big play and everyone in the media acts like he is a lock. course as noted above vince young was a lock too. he was just as good a qb as matt leinart when it came to the pro's.

which i had no idea had happened. the only "prospect" that i think they could have realistically taken instead of Mario, would have been Vernon Davis... but no team in their right mind would take a TE #1 overall.Green Habit wrote:And Spencer wouldn't have been a miss if he didn't suffer a horrific leg injury early in his career.elliseamos wrote:interesting that houston passed on both of them in the same draft. looking back at things, they drafted really well that year:Peeps wrote:clowney made one big play and everyone in the media acts like he is a lock. course as noted above vince young was a lock too. he was just as good a qb as matt leinart when it came to the pro's.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
after initially not liking the Pats dropping back from the 1st round yet again, I'd say they made out just fine with their trade with Minnesota last year:
Minnesota received the 29th pick, Cordarelle Patterson, WR
New England received the 52nd pick, Jamie Collins, OLB; the 83rd pick, Logan Ryan, CB; the 102nd pick, Josh Boyce, WR; and the 229th pick which went to Tampa Bay with Jeff Demps for Lagerrette Blount, RB.
they also have Aqib Talib and 7th rounder Michael Buchanan (DE) thanks to TB, who received a 4th rounder which they turned into William Gholston, DE.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
With the large group of early entrants, could this be a really "deep" draft or a "boom or bust" type of draft? I have no sense of things this year.

I think it's going to be pretty deep in some positions. It just might take a couple of years to show it, this is as good a crop of running backs as I can remember in a while. I think there will be a few receivers that blossom from the late rounds too. The QB situation to me could be really deep also. I think there are some guys that go between the 2nd and 4th that could start.

in other words, the pats won't make a first round pick.Electromatic wrote:elliseamos wrote:With the large group of early entrants, could this be a really "deep" draft or a "boom or bust" type of draft? I have no sense of things this year.

great.
i'd be curious to see what Scarnecchia could do with this guy, maybe he could be converted into a NT if all was lost as an OL.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Henderson is an intriguing guy. He was fawned over 4 years ago and it's not that shocking he was a liability off the field and sometimes on it. He's got ridiculous raw talent probably a good fit for the Pats to mold into a great player. He needs a hard assed coach and strong culture.

From the offseason thread...
No BYU linemen, but I just discovered that Xavier Su'a-Filo is from Provo and went on an LDS mission. Pencil him down for one of the Chiefs' first two picks.warehouse wrote:any byu lineman? letting 3 dudes walk, they might draft 2-3 OL with their first 2-3 picks.Green Habit wrote:Chiefs let three starting OL walk. warehouse, I think you know damn well what position that team is going to address in the first round (again).
