I didn't hate it, but I thought "Watchmen" was a good example of how super-faithful adaptations of graphic novels can be a bad idea. A lot of the things that work on the pages of a comic book can feel a bit silly on the screen. I did like Rorschach.

I heard somewhere that Terry Gilliam had wanted to do Watchmen as a mini series. Now that would've been something.

I remembered the watchmen series from when it came out in serial form - I'm sure whatever intellectual criticisms you all have are perfectly reasonable, but I was quite impressed when I saw it BECAUSE of its efforts to remain true to the comics.

other than the ending not being realistic to try to recreate in film (in my opinion, only, of course) i'd say it did a better job of book to movie transition than LOTR (which I loved more, for different reasons).
