Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Looks like Lovie is the guy for the Bucs
Im pretty happy right now, it may not be the right move and only time will tell, but i think Lovie will fall right between Raheem and Schiano as far has how he handles the players, just enough discipline to keep everyone in line but not so much that the players want to revolt, and a better then both on game day. Looks like he should have his OC and DC ready to go as well
FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports Lovie Smith will be the Buccaneers' next head coach.Credit ESPN's Adam Schefter for first tabbing Smith as the heavy favorite to coach Tampa Bay, and Glazer for breaking news of the actual hire. Previous reports have indicated Smith will be accompanied by Jeff Tedford to coordinate the Bucs' offense, and Leslie Frazier to run the defense. Turning 56 in May, Smith spent 2013 out of football after being fired by the Bears, where he was head coach for nine years and earned a 81-63 career record with one Super Bowl berth. Smith will be set up for success with the Bucs, who have a far more talented roster than their 4-12 2013 record suggests. The Bucs are hiring Smith before picking a general manager, which suggests Lovie will have plenty of personnel power. We'd view this as a fairly high-risk hire despite his successful head-coaching track record.

I definitely think he is the right man for the job. Im excited right nowLament wrote:As a life-long Packers fan, I gotta say I was thrilled the day the Bears were dumb enough to fire him. I'm glad he's not in the NFC North anymore. I know a lot of people here in Tampa are kinda on the fence about him, but I think the Bucs made a great hire. Nearly all of his teams managed to overachieve. That's not an accident.

They're getting the old gang back together. I'm sure Dungy must be excited.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:Espn is saying Rod Marinelli will become the DC, if that is true then i am even more excited now
I also think this will turn out much better than when Al Davis tried this with Art Shell and crew in 2006.

talk right now is that Lovie will handle most of the Responsibilities, which im not sure how i feel about, but that who ever the GM ends up being, he will be there to work with Lovie and not Above himelliseamos wrote:but who's the GM?

I wonder if Lovie will be impressed enough with Glennon or will he bring in a vet and draft another QB?Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:i really hope so, it was a good night last night hearing all the news come in, and i dont want that to be all the Excitement there is, i hope they can get the team back to WinningGreen Habit wrote:They're getting the old gang back together. Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
im worried that with Tedford coming in, he will want to draft someone, but i would like to see them bring in a Vet who could take care of the team for a year if Glennon Fails, then draft someone next year if they need.E.H. are there rules about working with players once the season is over? it would be nice if once the new Offensive coaching staff is in place they can work with Glennon a bit to see how they feel about him

i'd think they'd have to at least hire a cap-specialist.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:talk right now is that Lovie will handle most of the Responsibilities, which im not sure how i feel about, but that who ever the GM ends up being, he will be there to work with Lovie and not Above himelliseamos wrote:but who's the GM?

which is why i still dont know why they got rid of Dom, unless they figured he wouldnt want to lose some of his power, but he is the reason they are still in such good shape with their salary cap. i really hope they do get someone that can work out good contracts with the players that benefit the teamelliseamos wrote:i'd think they'd have to at least hire a cap-specialist.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:talk right now is that Lovie will handle most of the Responsibilities, which im not sure how i feel about, but that who ever the GM ends up being, he will be there to work with Lovie and not Above himelliseamos wrote:but who's the GM?

Something that hasn't been mentioned here yet is that if Lovie Smith is going to use the Tampa 2 there, there's no reason for them to keep Darrelle Revis at that ridiculous price. Fortunately, he can be cut easily with no cap consequences.

i read that pft story this morning too, which failed to mention how much schiano was already using zone coverage anyway. either way, it does make sense to reduce revis's cap hit.Green Habit wrote:Something that hasn't been mentioned here yet is that if Lovie Smith is going to use the Tampa 2 there, there's no reason for them to keep Darrelle Revis at that ridiculous price. The problem with this is that while their 2014 cap is OK for now, their 2015 cap could get tight, especially if they restructure Revis. Cutting Revis gives them a lot more room in both years.elliseamos wrote:i read that pft story this morning too, which failed to mention how much schiano was already using zone coverage anyway. either way, it does make sense to reduce revis's cap hit.Green Habit wrote:Something that hasn't been mentioned here yet is that if Lovie Smith is going to use the Tampa 2 there, there's no reason for them to keep Darrelle Revis at that ridiculous price. Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
ive been kind of annoyed with all the Revis talk on twitter today, the dude is still probably one of the best Corners in the league when healthy and he will be 100% healthy next year. i understand that he is making a lot of money if he isnt gonna be playing man to man, but i really doubt Lovie has even made a comment on Revis since being hired so this is a lot of speculation, and Good coaches adapt to the talent they have, they will make it work. i was definitely against going after him last off season because of the draft pick cost, but that is over and done with and i want him as a Buc now. hopefully they just leave it as is for now, if he isnt able to be used right, or he under performs then you cut him and free up all the cap space, if he plays like Revis and they make the D work with him then you restructure his contract to get him some guarantee money and lessen the cap hitGreen Habit wrote:The problem with this is that while their 2014 cap is OK for now, their 2015 cap could get tight, especially if they restructure Revis.
