Yes - my off the cuff point was that Matt C's style and songwriting suits Soundgarden far more than PJ. I also think King Animal is just solid to good, however that still firmly plants it as on par with Binaural and probably superior to everything else Matt C has drummed on for PJ, except (maybe) Riot Act.Oh, Jimmy wrote:If PJ had taken 15 years off I think they'd crap out a better album than King Animal. KA is a solid return and if your point is Matt C's style fits SG's style quite a bit more than PJ's, I agree. But King Animal isn't in the same universe as pre-hiatus SG or at least one PJ album with Cameron(Binaural).Citizen Dick wrote:beat wrote:Pearl Jam needs a new drummer.
Judging by King Animal the drummer needed a new Pearl Jam.

At least Mike's Social Distortion love gave us Down.......but yeah, when they covered Van Halen a few years back.......bodysnatcher wrote:Agreed.knee tunes wrote:Ka-chingWendy Carlos's Twin wrote:It's not Matt's problem that Mike would rather be playing a Kiss or Van Halen cover than something with some merit. Mike probably has the worst taste in music in the band, which he shoves into every solo, which he shoves into every song.

Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I'm finally at peace with the fact that I don't think any of Pj's drummers to date, were the men for the job in their own tenure.

the band have been at its most ecclectic since Matt joined so i'll give him that. must be a hell of a job to join a band of PJ's stature.dimejinky99 wrote:I'm finally at peace with the fact that I don't think any of Pj's drummers to date, were the men for the job in their own tenure.

Why would anyone debate something that Dave and Jack would readily admit themselves??....... That Matt Cameron is by far the best drummer between them. It's not a big deal, because Matt is just simply a virtuoso drummer.

Nobody argues that. He's a $1000 lobster on a plate with instant mash potato and beans, is the problem.

i almost agree with this stance although i just think that Matt did not, when he joined, have the right idea of nuance that PJ instinctively has. i think that he's opened new doors for the band but that he's also dragged them down by forgetting about the loud/soft dynamics that were so lovable on No Code and Yield. that guy is a machine - hot fire.dimejinky99 wrote:Nobody argues that. He moved into a charming creaky old mansion and made it all glass and steel contemporary.
But ten years later, he really should have figured out the incongruity.
Or at least bought some Persian rugs to go with the setee

I still think it's amazing how quickly he learnt almost the entire PJ catalogue so quickly, as shown in PJ20.

I refer you to my $1000 lobster statement.
I don't think PJ was a reach for him then, or now.

We've got lobsters too but the mussel and oyster were always more popular for some reason.

Did Dave A ever join another band?
