I don't know if BoB is stopping them from recording other tracks, Pendulum was a backspacer outtake BoB didn't care for, they just worked on it without him ( and came up with some of the more interesting music they have in a while imo). I would count State and Breath among the Ten "b sides," since they WERE regular band sessions (as opposed to, say, Face of Love) and were released within the era in which they were recorded. They just weren't on a Maxi single.

Also, the difference in outtake releases is even more pronounced when you consider that Vs, Vitalogy, and No Code all came out in a span of about 3 years, while S/T-Lightning Bolt represents a span of seven years. Putting outtakes on singles or soundtracks would do a lot more to help the downtime now than it did back then.

It's strange they never released a b-side during Binaural considering how much material they had for that album. Also, those were two random singles.
