Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
Ya Vs I adore a handful of songs, but there's quite a few that I really don't care for at all. Ten is just a little too dated for me now. Those weren't the albums that got me into PJ too. I got into PJ when Merkinball came out so really it was that sound that got me into PJ. Ten is pretty far from that although Oceans, Release, and Jeremy are some of the bands finest songs.guitar_davey wrote:Kesseli wrote:Rioct act over Vs and Ten. I'm intrigued.HardTI wrote:1. Binaural

Ten and Vs are classics, but personally, I'm way more inclined to listen to Riot Act in my old(er) age.
Riot Act I dislike a a few songs on too, but the production is almost perfect. It's such a treat to listen to even if I struggle to make it through the whole album due to length (and the overall depressing vibe). I guess I rate it above those below it for the production value alone.

Vitalogy drops a spot, Lightning Bolt enters the ranking at #8, and Backspacer finally overtakes Avocado as my least-favorite PJ record. This is bound to switch back once I listen to Avocado again.

Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
Most people don't rank Ten as lowly as I do. I'd probably put it below even Backspacer, but I'd have to listen to both of them again. I haven't heard LB enough to really rank it. What I have heard did not entice me to listen to it again. I'll probably get around to it someday but not in a hurry. I have yet to hear a band/artist in the rock era that put out better music as they got older. Rock is a young person's genre, and it just seems the natural way of things that rock bands/artists begin to suck as they get older, richer, etc. I don't hold that against them at all; but I don't expect any different, either. People point to Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, who do continue to make good music. But as good as the music they wrote and released in their twenties? Not even close. Same with PJ.stip wrote:your bottom 3 are my 2nd, 4th, and 5th favorite PJ albums

In the case of Pearl Jam, that'd only be Ten, Vs and Vitalogy.PryTo wrote:But as good as the music they wrote and released in their twenties?
Actually, now I check, Jeff was already 30 at the time Vs was released.
Ed, Mike and Stone had all turned 30 by the time No Code was released (in fact, Ed would've turned 32 a few months later).
So...hey, there you go.

Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
Yeah, you got me. I was speaking in general terms about being "young," meaning late teens, twenties, early thirties. My larger point doesn't change. It also depends on when the band gets started because I think getting successful/rich plays a part. And the line is fuzzy. I'm not saying the day someone hits thirty their musical ability/hunger/whatever disappears.Birds in Hell wrote:In the case of Pearl Jam, that'd only be Ten, Vs and Vitalogy.PryTo wrote:But as good as the music they wrote and released in their twenties?
