TPM was the best of the latest trilogy.

No way. Vader/Skywalker in ROTJ is the best. There was some emotion in that thing. Im not impressed by dazzling lights and ridiculous flips.

The first sixty seconds and the last sixty seconds are great. The in-between is just meaningless set piece scurry.

I don't know how it holds up under repeat viewings, but who didn't cheer like a mother fucker when Yoda busted out that light saber at the end of Clones and started kicking Dooku's ass?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Yoda is pretty much a perfect example of why using (or oversaturating) well-built and effectively contained characters in order to meet your own storytelling wants just sort of ends with you smearing poop on characterization in exchange for a few momentary "cool dood" jackoff events. It was enough for us to know that he was involved in the Clone Wars, and that at one point he was forced into this very tumultuous conflict. It did his character no favors for us to actually SEE it happen.

Concentrate all your fire on the nearest starship.

You will know...when you are calm, at peace, passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense.

Into custody, take this Jango Fett. Bring him here. Question him, we will.

Wars not make one great.

Image
If so powerful you are...why leave?

Image
All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless.

Hard to imagine Yoda was humbled by the severe beat down at the hands of the Sith, is it?

You're not wrong, but for some reason, that has never pissed me off as much as the pussification of Vader and Boba Fett. I guess b/c they took Yoda in the other direction.

I can imagine the prequels Yoda, but I would guess in reality the difference in the two Yodas should have been centuries rather than decades.

I'm down with that. Or even if they'd just done ANYthing to mark this Yoda as being not fully developed as a character. But in reality, every other thing they do with him in the prequels feels like a desperate scribbled note to remind us that yes, this IS that guy you liked from that movie. They go out of their way to PREVENT you from being able to make that jump. And that's not all that surprising...when you invest in a character primarily as an audience draw or iconic image, then your tendency is going to be to try and keep them as close to the recognized and familiar as possible...even when it's injurious to your story or to the character themselves.

Which is exactly why I expect to see 900 year old Harrison Ford (who, true to the warning, does not look as good as Yoda) in a black vest and a swag belt tooling around in the Millenium Falcon.
