Okay, the impossibly high esteem with which McP holds me is going to take a hit for this, but I am not opposed to getting the final farewell with Luke, Han, etc. IF it is a good script and a good movie. I actually enjoyed watching Harrison Ford play old indiana jones. there were lots of problems with that film, but they were not problems really related to Indy being old

Some things he's said...
I gotta say, as someone who is such a Star Wars fan, without question my favorite movies were the original films. And it's a funny thing because a lot of my friends have this debate there they say "Empire Strikes Back's clearly the better movie." I don't know, I have a soft spot in my heart for Star Wars, the original film. I love Empire as well, but there's something about Star Wars, the original.

When asked "Who shot first?," Abrams said "I would argue there was only one shot."
A lot of kids who saw all the prequels when they were young really do identify with those movies as much as my generation identified with the originals.
If you look at the last three “Star Wars” films and what technology allowed them to do, they covered so much terrain in terms of design, locations, characters, aliens, ships — so much of the spectacle...whether it’s geography or design of culture or weather system or character or ship type....everything has been tapped in those movies. The challenge of doing “Star Trek” — despite the fact that it existed before “Star Wars” — is that we are clearly in the shadow of what George Lucas has done.
For me the character of Darth Vader was always so compelling because you were putting together all these thing in your head and making all these assumptions, that to get to know Anakin as much as we ultimately did changed the way you consider Darth Vader. It's crazy that my kids relate to Anakin; which to me is criminal because I grew up believing Vader was a bad guy. I related to Luke and Leia and Han Solo. You just don't relate to Vader! I still think it's wrong to be on Anakin's side. So I guess there's no one character I can point to and say that I want to know more about him or her, it's just that Star Wars is so vast it would be great to find new characters that have that level of emotional intimacy.
I'm...not entirely sure he got the end of Jedi. And LOL at that last bit.

that would be telling. Although i wonder if there are limits to what he can say, now that he's part of the franchise.

Some of those quotes above predate not only his involvement in the new movies, but the Disney deal itself.

regarding the bold comment--you were a kid for the original movies. Did you actually relate to Vader? I mean relate to him--that he was the character you most identified with and found to be the moral core of the story?

He becomes more interesting as I've gotten older, but as a kid his journey mattered only insofar as it impacted luke (which was quite a bit, to be fair)

As a kid, I never really saw Vader as much of a threat. I'm not sure why. I just always thought he was a pretty ineffective Big Bad. I always thought there was something much darker just behind him.

By the time I was old enough to process them as stories, I think Jedi was coming out on video. Empire had already done a LOT to change the way the character was perceived, anyway.

Just yesterday, we heard a rumor that BREAKING BAD and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS actor, Jesse Plemons, was in contention for a lead role for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. With filming set to begin this April, we knew that more information was soon to leak. I didn’t know it was only going to take a day but the always reliable, Borys Kit over at THR, has a bunch of new information on EPISODE VII.

He confirms that Plemons is indeed scheduled to meet with Abrams this week, but is one of many actors meeting with Abrams before final casting decisions are made. Abrams has reportedly already met with Michael Fassbender (who is set to star in and produce ASSASSIN’S CREED which has a release date also in 2015) and is also considering GIRLS star, Adam Driver (who was recently rumored for Nightwingin the BATMAN/SUPERMAN film coming in 2015) for a role.

The roles that Abrams is considering Plemons, Driver, and Fassbender are unknown but Hugo Weaving is reportedly up for a role as an Imperial commander and has also already met with Abrams.

The last bit of real casting news is that Abrams and company are now looking for an African-American or mixed-race female in her 20’s. The role is rumored to be either Obi-Wan Kenobi’s daughter or more likely his granddaughter.

This is finally getting back to being exciting in a kind of "it's always fun to watch someone fail real hard" kind of way.

It's got nothing on the explanation of why Yoda insists on training the younglings. Lots and lots of younglings. In a room with a locking door. And orange shag carpeting.
