Got Some wrote:I thought Severed Hand was about a soldier so freaked out about his situation he took drugs to survive. And Marker is about religion ??

Lightning bolt should if been called " Subterfuge"
its about a soldier in the context of the album, but eddie vedder talked about taking ayahausca before. it might be on the old board. ayahausca is part of a religious ceremony in some parts of south america, so thats how it relates to marker in the sand.

"Navigation" is what they should have named lb.

Both of you, your strongliest disagreement is nothing compared to mine.

there's a lot of great stuff on lightning bolt. It's inconsistent, but pearl jam has been inconsistent for nearly 20 years.

It's always weird to be reminded that I might actually have a higher estimation of Pearl Jam's career than stip does.

That's not the point. We're talking about "as good as anything", meaning that it should be as good as your top 10 songs or your top 5 or, you know, your top 1 favorite PJ song ever. I really want to know which LB songs harmless thinks are as good as, say, Corduroy, RVM, or whatever his top PJ songs are. Looking at his rankings in this automated thing you guys love so much, the LB songs never show up in the first half but somehow they're as good as the best of the best?

You cleverly edited out the words *pretty much*, which could have been replaced by 'almost'.

Nope. The age of inconsistency began at S/T. Fact.

I SAID 'AS GOOD AS ANYTHING... PRETTY MUCH'.

By which I mean that I'm as happy to listen to the best bits of this album as I am to listen to the best bits of anything else. I am not gauging quality here, I've used no electronic instruments of measurement.

And I've never had a top 10, let alone a top 5. The idea is ridiculous to me.

Im on board with the idea of LB being a really good album. I cant really know where to put it in terms of the older ones, but i really dont want to yet.

Just enjoy ( or not ) the music.

Let's all discuss the philosophical framework for using comparative relationships to illustrate musical preference, and it's value relative to other communicative structures, gang.
