I definitely get why you love it. It's not a personal favorite, but there are times when it comes on and I'm all alone and man, the way it swells up at the end...it just hits the spot and feels so good.stip wrote:Lament, what do you think of Bette Midler's The Rose? cool of you to offer. don't feel you have to or need to have a deadline. it really doesn't bother me. like i said, i just wanted to move this along; the thread had been relatively dead for a few days and i just felt like posting it.AndySlash wrote:Code: Select all

i didn't intend to shame anyone, i just wanted to put it out there. hopefully they'll still do a review but if not, that's ok.

Re: ::REVIEWS:: 2013 Secret Mixtape project
01 The standout track from the relatively recent PJ Harvey/John Parish record. Probably in my top ten PJ Harvey tunes.
02 I like the girl's voice but I'm not sure about the song.
03 I dig this tune. The warmth of the crackle, the kinda breakbeat drums, the wispy vocals...it's a nice package.
04 The more I listened to this one the more I liked it. I like how it stretches out and covers a variety of subtle moods.
05 I don't think I like this one too much, although it does seem like Bloc Party w/ female vox, which is something I should be drawn to.
06 Not the kind of thing I'd normally listen to but I enjoyed the garage vibe.
07 Instrumentally this showed a lot of promise. If only I could stomach the vocalist.
08 Again, not digging this vocalist but the lead break was rad.
09 This was a tasty and direct predominantly instrumental tune that I want to know more about.
10 I'd expect this song to come from the soundtrack to an eighties movie like The Last Starfighter or Electric Dreams. OK but in small doses.
11 Another track that has merit. I wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio.
12 I'd wager that this band plays a reasonable music festival set. This song was OK by me even though it sounded almost like a demo.
13 I didn't like this one too much.
14 This band does everything right in this song but it sort of lacks any semblance of magic for me.
15 Good closer. I like the drum sound.
All in all this was a good little mix. Some of the transitions were a little off and not all of the vocalists were to my liking but it held my attention over the couple of spins I gave it. The whole mix had a very uniform feel/vibe, although I'm sure that the subtleties and dynamics would reveal themselves after more listens. Very few of the songs were familiar, so this has been a worthwhile experience. I'd be keen to dig into the track listing further. Thanks Lament!

Re: ::REVIEWS:: 2013 Secret Mixtape project
Thanks for the review, zeb! I'm glad there was some stuff that caught your ear. I didn't really have a good idea of how to approach your mix, so I just picked a deep U2 cut and tried to build it from there.
Let me know if there's anything you want to know more about, or if there's anyone you'd like me to send you some more songs by.
Anyways, here's the tracklisting...
