The Niners seem to have the best combination of defense, offense, and the "we-came-so-close-to-winning-it-all" thirst for victory.

I would love for the 49ers to be the buffalo bills of this decade.

I'll second that...and if it's Pats-Seahawks, the nation will understand - via the media - Carroll's pretty shitty tenure in New England.

Having him sandwiched atoud parcells and bellichick doesn't help his standing around here either.

If he's not your coach the dancing around and general phoniness get really old. He's friendly and positive when it's convenient. He's a good coach but I'm glad I don't have to trust him for any reason. He's the kind of guy that would stab you in the back and then make it seem like it was your fault.

i've often wondered what his tenure would have been like had robert edwards and andy katzenmoyer not been lost after their rookie seasons (in consecutive seasons). i also wonder if faulk gets drafted the following april if edwards doesn't get hurt. looking back, that's two first rounders that played one season each for the carroll/greir Pats.

it'd be pretty hard to have the belichick patriots dynasty w/o faulk, but it'd be interesting to see what direction bobby greir goes in during the 2nd round in the 1999 draft (peerless price, marty booker, joey porter?).

that said, it could be quite the parcells/belichick off-shoot if greir takes over as head-dog in houston w/ o'brien as hc and crennell as dc. after reading the following, it seems odd that belichick replaced him:
wikipedia wrote:Grier was fired shortly after the 2000 NFL Draft with then-assistant director of player personnel Scott Pioli taking over Grier's responsibilities, despite being instrumental for helping the Patriots draft Tom Brady in the 6th round of the NFL draft, being the only NFL executive to have contacted Lloyd Carr, Brady's college coach, about drafting Brady. Grier then was hired by the Houston Texans in May 2000 as their associate director of pro scouting, two years before the team began play.

Grier was definitely there for a bit around those guys, but I dont think he was a "Parcells Guy." I think he was more Kraft's guy before he brought Bellichick in and gave him full control.

i don't know that for sure either, but there were certainly years of opportunity for Parcells to let Greir go.

An irrational hatred:
Brady vs. Manning!

Brady 10-4 against Peyton Manning!
Who gives a shit? Different teams, different seasons. And they don't even face each other. I fucking hate it when they do that.
