Re: Total Fucking Godhead / The Soundgarden Thread
As mentioned in the Smashing Pumpkins thread, I'm working on a Soundgarden bootleg mix. It was going to be 2 discs but I think I'm going to expand it to 4, so it might take a couple weeks.
Here's how it's going to work:
Disc 1: 1985 - 1989
* This will cover the era when Hiro was in the band. This should be a fairly definitive mix of this era, since there aren't many bootlegs out there from then. There are quite a few from early 1989, which will help fill out the disc. Expect the one remaining song from the 1989 Peel session that hasn't been officially released ("Thank You"), a couple of demos, a 4-song soundboard collection from 1988 that was put out on a bootleg 7" (doesn't sound super, but still nice) and some other gems.
Disc 2: 1989 - 1992
* This covers the Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger eras. Expect a lot of soundboard material, plus a few of the demos from the Stolen Prayers bootleg. I have an upgrade of the Cornell 1992 demos to add, but I'm not going to use all of the Cornell demos out there - I don't really like the Ozzy songs, and many of the demos are 6-7 minutes long. Meh. Which songs would you guys prefer? There's also a SBD of an 11-minute version of "Slaves and Bulldozers" that's going to close the disc.
Disc 3: 1994 - 1997
* This is the final era of Soundgarden, and this is my favorite disc. This one is done - I don't need to do anything else. Expect the Self-Pollution Radio and MTV 1996 tracks, as well as some live tracks like "Christi". I'm listening to a live version of "Half" right now, which is going on the disc as well.
Disc 4: 2010 - 2013
* This disc will take the longest, since there's a lot of stuff out there and the quality is pretty uniform. Most of the TV and session tracks circulating out there aren't lossless, so I'll have to figure out what stuff is usable.
Hopefully I'll be done with the mix by the end of the month.
Then maybe I'll finally update the Live Guide. It's been too long.

I haven't listened to that Poncier CD in years. I don't even have it on my computer.
Looking forward to this, Matt.

i love everything on Badmotorfinger, but some killer versions of: Room a Thousand Years Wide, Somewhere, Slaves, New Damage, and Rusty Cage would make me a berry happy man.

Somewhere - Sounds exactly like the studio version
Slaves - Check!
New Damage - Only performed a few times, it's not making the cut.
Rusty Cage - I'll put a version of this on somewhere.

Cool. From the Ultramega era, Beyond the Wheel would be great. that song has been stuck in my head every day for about 2 years now. i kind of have a problem where i cant get it out of my head. it gives me dark, dark strength. but is probably actually poisoning me from within.matt reeder wrote:Room a Thousand Years Wide - Every version sounds the same96583UP wrote:i love everything on Badmotorfinger, but some killer versions of: Room a Thousand Years Wide, Somewhere, Slaves, New Damage, and Rusty Cage would make me a berry happy man.

I did query that but it's been 15 odd years since I've seen it. Searching was also the first track I saw live of theirs.zeb wrote:Whoops, I said Room, but it was Searching.Birds in Hell wrote:Me too!LetMeSleep wrote:This. I didn't know that the above had been uploaded to the tubes, but it pretty much confirms that this Calgary (?) show was pro shot (it's almost certainly the same show that the HYPE footage comes from). It'd be nice if the whole show surfaced one day, along with DVD remasters of Motorvision and Louder Than Live.
