I forgot to mention army reserve, that is a favorite and I've been a follower of Damian for years. The blue calcite spheres I bought from him are priceless to me. He is a good writer too, I love his book life after death. Great book. could of used some editorial decisions but great nonetheless.

Great lyrics by Damian on army reserve, Mikie on fire

In a lot of ways I dislike what this record stands for--essentially a conscious move away from the natural creative arc of the previous 4-5 records, away from the introverted textures and askew song structures, in favor of a deliberately straightforward rock approach that was all but announced as a ploy to win back all the old fans who couldn't cope with the band's modest experimental urges--more than I dislike the record itself.

I disagree with ur second paragraph. Avocado wasn't an attempt to win old fans , it was a continuation of the art rock of riot act, with a producer who was out of his element with the new louder rock recordings and tried to fit in but it didn't work ... 4 years later after he did a good job with riot act before going digital

I find Avocado is one of, if not the most fulfilling listens nowadays. Maybe the others have been played to death. Parachutes, MITS and AR are top notch and SH, Unemployable, BW and Comatose make for a fine album. Pity some of the others aren't so strong.

I'm a fourth or fifth account, I knew Scott Horowitz and helped him
with the lyrics which was the basis of this site at the time. Lyrics, thats why this place was created. I'm older than old school

Ps: Scott Horowitz created the skyiscrape

If I were you I wouldn't listen until I'm dead. Wait for the afterlife and pray that there is no such thing.

Avocado is inconsistent, but it's high points are great. It has several of my very favorite songs by them.

having said that, there is certainly a lot of truth to KD's objection. It's just that i prefer the straightforward sound more than the direction of the albums that preceded it.

without reading through the thread, it certainly sounds like this person still holds the band in some esteem in spite of the last seven years, so it's hard to imag-uh-uh-uhhnnne that S/T would be a bummer ride for them. Production aside, it's certainly not a worse set of songs/performances than the last two records. If you like the old stuff but have also played songs like Sirens, Amongst the Waves, and Let the Records Kill Me in the Face Please God more than four or five times on purpose, then I can't imagine that S/T being an issue for you.

So to sum up, you are not missing much, and the last three albums aren't that great. There is pretty much one really good album (meaning like 10+ songs) among the last three. The track-list for that is probably for another thread.

This pretty much sums up the album for me. The intent of this album is off-putting. Alas, Parachutes, Marker, and Army Reserve are still top notch, with Comatose not too far off.

It does now make curious to think of what my opinion of this album would be had I heard the last two albums first. I'd definitely still be turned off by the ear grating shrill of the production.

don't listen to all the bitter ex-girlfriends who hang out here. There is lots of great stuff on these albums.
