McParadigm wrote:"No one thinks to witness, but they will someday," in that context is the type of line that sounds like it's saying something really profound and provocative, but it really doesn't add up to anything more than just kind of moody self-importance. It's like the 'run away from your problems' equivalent of "THEN you'll be sorry!"
No, it's like leaving your home town after a bad childhood, but having enough guts to think that one day things will be better. Once you get out of this town, you will turn it around. They might not notice now, but they will. That's a great attitude to have.
Yeah, AND THEN THEY'LL BE SORRY!
That's still a bit too much ambiguous. I wish that line had the unequivocalness of Unemployable's "locker where he kept his things".
You're always saying that there's something wrong.

I don't really think Ed is more or less mature now. He had already lived a full life and was an adult when writing Ten. Now he can do what he wants.

Gone however has some of his best post-2000s lyrics.

I agree that it's typical Eddie Vedder, but that doesn't mean it's not an unbelievably unhealthy attitude.
The unhealthy attitude is to give up, I've met a lot if people like that. Nothing beats a fighter, someone that never gives up.

It's unhealthy to be concerned about other people "witnessing" that you've left a bad situation. That's what sixteen year olds do. A grown up just leaves.

Do you do a lot of packing up and leaving bad situations, Anders? Or is this all hypothetical to you?

There's running away, and then there's going out to make a life (fighting). Two different things.

All Pearl Jam is about running away from your problems. I thought we'd covered this.

It's not really about me, I've had a mostly good life, I'm not complaining. I have left my home town with good and bad memories, but nearly all good. I've also left friendships and relationships behind, like we all have, but I don't dwell on them (some memories of course). It's like that old saying, you don't have to die to talk about death.

It's probably similar for Ed. He loves San Diego and Chicago I'm sure, and has mostly good memories.

I think that if you leave a bad situation behind, and you do not focus on how you will succeed in the next one, how you will 'show them', then your chance of failure increases.
