Really enjoying the first album after a few listens through. I'll probably move on to the second one sometime next week. We Made a Mountain and What We Gained in the Fire are my early favorites.

Listen, I have no problem with the chorus in Generals. I'm really glad you're taking time with the first before moving on to the second. What We Gained in the Fire is just tops. But it's such a great homage/throwback to 60s/70s protest rock. I think it's goddamn genius. It's pretty much a rallying manifesto, that song (or 'womanifesto'). I think Durden's protest throwback comment is true. What protest march doesn't include cliches?

Manufactured implies a certain degree of artifice, like it was constructed from a set of plans. As opposed to the phrase, crafted, for instance, which has more organic connotations

The word "manufactured' implies that something is made in a factory environment. Saying something sounds manufactured means that it lacks individual character and doesn't sound like anyone spent much time on it. So there.theplatypus wrote:It's all "manufactured". Let me clarify. I don't really have much of a problem with that call and response part on the album version of the song. The way it's mixed together there doesn't really leave it in the forefront enough to bother me. But I listen to the daytrotter version a lot (which I otherwise love) and that (and other live versions) is where it grates me.
