This certainly could be going in the bitching thread as well, but I generally like the band:

http://pjaday.tumblr.com/

I'm running a PJ song (or a song that cannot be disassociated from the band) each weekday. It's been seven days already, so I think I'm committed. Running the site through the Tumblr dashboard doesn't work, but just looking at the page or through RSS it's fine.

Well, that's sorta neat. It's nice to hear individual opinions on the songs. http://fivevs1.wordpress.com/ That's another blog that did similar run-throughs several years back and has started up again. Might be interesting to compare and contrast your thoughts with his.

Oh I realise that.

I just hadn't seen this particular old material. It's good material. But Jorge, so you really just quoted yourself?

No, I quoted Alex. I think. It was a callback. Just leave me alone.

Thanks for the link and the kind words.

I just need to dump some info out there and, as a challenge to myself, see if I can complete a full year.

I am not going to remember to look at this every day, but I like the posts you've made so far. You should reproduce them here. We have threads for all these songs archived here

I could when I get some time. The discussions here were part of the reason for the site: seeing people rediscover "old" songs that I remember when they were brand new. Plus I saved a bunch of articles and old website stuff from 96-03 that I can share (I have Rumor Pits 1-54 as text files on this computer right now).

I've been running through my "bsides and misc" PJ folder this week and I'm constantly reminded of how good even the throw-away tracks are from this band. And it's not just talking about the obvious stuff like Sad or Breath, I'm talking about things like Black Red Yellow or Happy when I'm Crying. Imagine finding this band today and all the beautiful and weird stuff you'd have to explore.

Some recordings I fell in love with all over again...

Footsteps (original version) - such a powerful vocal performance gets muddied by the added harmonica on LD.
Drifting (LD version) - the flipside of what I said about Footsteps, this one got better when Eddie went to the higher octave on Lost Dogs.
Crazy Mary - I've become a bit desensitized to the long-winded live renditions and forgot how honest Ed's vocal was on the original recording.
Poor Girl and Devil Doll (Ed with Supersuckers) - These are two of my favorite Ed-collaboration tracks, right up there with Ed/Zeke doing I Believe in Miracles.
