OK, so this is just an excuse to get you to hear this NPR first listen that a friend just pointed me to: Angelique Kidjo's new album Eve. It's apparently sung in 5 languages: Fon, Yorùbá, French, Swahili and English. Anyone interested in fusions and eclecticism and genre-bending, give it a go.

i love Angelique Kidjo.

i'll throw in a few artists that i quite enjoy as well:

- Amadou & Mariam (they're a blind couple from Mali with varied influences including rock. Amadou plays some pretty interesting guitar - i'd describe their style as sunny on the surface yet dark underneath.) Go to album: Dimanche à Bamako (2005)

- Tinariwen (also from Mali but they're, as opposed to the more urban Amadou & Mariam, from the Tuareg (desert) region. they also rock quite a bit - an essential band, world music or else) Go to album: Aman Iman (2007)
