Its just an ok movie, but elevated because of the performance of Matthew McC, which is awesome. I hated Jared Leto though, he is always trying too much, i dont find him believable at all.Dev wrote:dallas buyers club was good, but nothing really stayed with me

as far as 2013 releases that people might have missed. I recommend, Computer Chess, Warmest Colour is Blue, Crystal Fairy, Side Effects, and even As I Lay Dying.
all the oscar fair this year was so average. a lot of it good, but average.

dude, jared leto was stellar in that movie. he was real. i think he is the right kind of pretentious, as far as a guy.VinylGuy wrote:Its just an ok movie, but elevated because of the performance of Matthew McC, which is awesome. Re: What movies are you watching?
I just saw Jared Leto trying to act like a homosexual...not a real person or character there. Just a hollywood actor trying to be serious, to score an award or something.Dev wrote:dude, jared leto was stellar in that movie. he was real. i think he is the right kind of pretentious, as far as a guy.VinylGuy wrote:Its just an ok movie, but elevated because of the performance of Matthew McC, which is awesome. I have a hard time remember the name of the blue movie cuz it's french.VinylGuy wrote:Blue is the warmest color..that how the movie is named. I havent seen it yet.

See I like movies that ring true (which is obviously subjective). but I think hipster fairy really nailed the troupe it was going after. totally reminded me of the people you would meet hitchhiking in BC.
As I Lay Dying was kind of terrible but I liked it for some inexplicable reason. The split screen and some of the characters were super effective as far as I was concerned. I am super pumped to see "Child Of God" too, of course.

to be fair, if we are going after authenticity, I would be more suspicious of matt mcc, who suddenly turned on romantic commedies and shitty action movies, to take on more "serious roles".VinylGuy wrote:I just saw Jared Leto trying to act like a homosexual...not a real person or character there. yeah, she was the best part of that movie....she is doing a really similar character on Girls now. Its like a darker Fairy.Dev wrote:I have a hard time remember the name of the blue movie cuz it's french.VinylGuy wrote:Blue is the warmest color..that how the movie is named. I havent seen it yet.

Im not pointing about Leto, but his performance. It wasnt believable to me..every time he was on screen it looked like a fucking actor, it kept me off the story.Dev wrote:to be fair, if we are going after authenticity, I would be more suspicious of matt mcc, who suddenly turned on romantic commedies and shitty action movies, to take on more "serious roles".VinylGuy wrote:I just saw Jared Leto trying to act like a homosexual...not a real person or character there. McC has been doing tremendous work, from Killer Joe to this one, everytime he is on screen everything keeps getting more real.

when I said "hipster fairy" I meant to write crystal fairy, but yeah she was definitely a huge part of why the movie worked. the whole cast was great though. michael cera and the Brazilian bros were also really great.VinylGuy wrote:yeah, she was the best part of that movie....she is doing a really similar character on Girls now. I can't believe you called me on that, after I let the Jared Leto thing slide.

Maybe because it was an important part of the story? Did you hear those boys and everyone else rather than Cera in the movie talk?Dev wrote:I can't believe you called me on that, after I let the Jared Leto thing slide.
Im messing with you. The greatest thing about that movie was the how Cera´s character is shown.

Captain Phillips - good movie. Hanks was excellent, as always. But I was dismayed to learn how the actual crew of the ship disputed so many of the details of the movie, including the character of the captain.
There Will Be Blood - excellent movie. I haven't watched this in about five years. Not sure if this was my second or third time seeing it, but it's one that keeps getting better every time I see it.
Jeff, Who Lives at Home - endearing little indieish flick. I enjoyed the crap out of it actually.
