It always annoyed me how he never played the piano part in Rival.

What I'm wondering is generally when he sounds bad on record, which is not often. I'm not surprised he has to smash the keys to hear himself over Matt, Jeff and three electric guitars thrashing open chords.

Sure, but Boom is on another level. Namely fifth-grade level.

Part of the reason I brought up Boom is because I know I'm not keen on whether he's even good at what he does compared to his peers.
It still sort of bugs me that hes either under appreciated or underutilized considering the dynamic he adds to their sound.
Or maybe he's been used to the max of his ability, which begs the question, "why not find a better player?"

Or why just get rid of him all together? Pearl Jam was great for 12 years without an organist.

Because Ed doesn't smoke in Hawaii with another player.

But yeah I agree with you really; it doesn't bother me at all that there may be better organ players out there. By and large, I think his sound adds something to the dynamics of the band and he is good enough. This is undoubtedly how other people who don't know anything about drums (and some who do) feel about Matt.

He clearly has some dirt on Ed from some random Hawaii excursion that he has bribed his way into a touring gig

You mean your visual representation of your oft-touted view that he sounds like he's playing with boxing gloves?

Listening to "The Guests are so Refined" compilation from 2003 in Japan, and he's playing this part.

There's always someone better, as far as that goes. It's all about chemistry

Yup. I see no issues with chemistry regarding Boom because they're all thrashing around insensitively these days, but I do think Matt is not a good fit.

Nobody, for nothing, until they've kicked Ed out of the songwriting department. Guy needs a timeout something fierce.
