Why? In the realm of what Pearl Jam does, those songs are kind of out of their wheelhouse, no?malice wrote:sleight of hand, evacuation, WMA????
really? *throws hands in air* nm.
Again, the ending specifically is what I'm talking about. Like I said, it would be a maybe, so would In My Tree.malice wrote:oh, god - present tense too? I just noticed that in the next post. srsly guys - present tense is NOT experimental.
Are these experimental rock songs in general? I don't really think so. Are they kind of weird in terms of what Pearl Jam does? I think so.
With that in mind, if a non-PJ fan asked me to put together a playlist of songs by Pearl Jam that are slightly out of their normal range, I think the list of songs I chose would do well to expose someone to another side of PJ. A side that isn't anthem rock or straight ahead 4/4 rock.

I think you have missed the point completely.Kaius wrote:It's becoming apparent that any song that doesn't sound like a reincarnation of a previous song is experimental.

People just have very different perceptions of what is experimental.

Re: Best Experimental Pearl Jam Tune?
First off, PJ isn't experimental. This thread however ask "Best Experimental PJ Tune". The correct answer is nothing. They don't have one. However, trying to play along, you can pull a few songs out of their catalog that are "experimental" for PJ. A better word would be "different".Anders wrote:People just have very different perceptions of what is experimental.

Re: Best Experimental Pearl Jam Tune?
I agree. Instead people are mostly talking about filler tracks, that no non Pearl Jam fan would ever bother to listen to.darth_vedder wrote:First off, PJ isn't experimental. I mean, look how long that title is. Up till then, almost all of the titles on their albums were one word.

Weird
Quirky
Off-Kilter
....I think most people understand what is meant by "Experimental Pearl Jam Tune," they're just oddly protective of the word "experimental" and don't want to use it to describe Pearl Jam songs because Pearl Jam isn't cool enough to be "experimental." Like an "experimental" song has to be some kind of off the wall bonkers shit.

really, most of the songs are pretty pearl jam-ish to me.
I can't think of a time listening to sleight of hand, evacuation, WMA, present tense, insignificance, smile, whatever else - and thinking: wow- how experimental of them.
I listened to them and thought - pearl jam.
are you guys just talking about songs that aren't anthemic rockers or something? is there some quintessential essence of pearl jam's recording career that I need to be juxtaposing those songs against in order to determine if they're experimental 'for a pearl jam song'? because I'm missing it.
