And then there's this, which is other reason Geffen signed Nirvana. The tapes made from that session set off a bidding war amongst the major labels. It's still a great listen and one of the best "unreleased" (though released in full now, with one exception) albums you'll ever hear.

I was not aware that bleach was critically acclaimed before nevermind. Now we can just chalk this up to people being too easily impressed rather than Kurt Cobain mythologizing!
