Re: The Official Neil Young Thread
Neil and crazy horse played a big outdoor show here last year and got all these terrible reviews in the media and on social outlets cos they played nothing but new songs and jammed out on them for up to twenty minutes on some of them.
How would you guys feel if you were at a show of his and this happened?
Just curious cos he's never done this any time I've seen him. I'd like to see it.

The Alchemy tour has been awesome. Go see em. The new songs are typical horse jams...just get high and enjoy em. There's some gems...Walk Like A Giant. Then when they get to Cortez, Fuckin Up, and Hurricane, it's the payoff.dimejinky99 wrote:Neil and crazy horse played a big outdoor show here last year and got all these terrible reviews in the media and on social outlets cos they played nothing but new songs and jammed out on them for up to twenty minutes on some of them.

You basically have to see Neil and the Horse anytime you can. It's literally the last time you'll get the chance.

Yeah they're coming past again this year. I've loved him with the horse both times I've seen em.

You gotta go. I'm mad they haven't rescheduled the missed NA dates from last year after Poncho broke his hand.

I kind of have a bar that Neil set and he'll never surpass.
Got front row seats two nights on his greendale tour in a small venue in Dublin.
Think there's a DVD of the show with one version of the cd?
They were two magical nights.
This year he's in Cork in a big tent. It's a trek, but I'll go:)

Re: The Official Neil Young Thread
I was in school in Halifax during the Greendale Tour, so I missed the Toronto shows. My best chance was to see it in Detroit during the winter '04 run. I would have had to fly in and then drive 4 hours from Toronto. I was like, 'look, I love the Horse, but the show is 90% the Greendale album, which is good but not great.' I skipped the show. They encored with Dangerbird and Down By the River. It's been tough to forgive myself.dimejinky99 wrote:I kind of have a bar that Neil set and he'll never surpass.

Yeah I've felt that too. If I don't go, what am I gonna miss??
Same stupid logic sees me traipsing about Europe after Pj most summers.
And it's *always* the one or two I don't go to, has something special.
Feck.

I dont know what the European and Australian press were smoking before they went to those shows? He had already toured the U.S. on that tour, and thats EXACTLY what he was doing. Hell its exactly what I expected to see at the show I went too? It was a GREAT show. Hes NEVER been the "greatest hits" performer.dimejinky99 wrote:Neil and crazy horse played a big outdoor show here last year and got all these terrible reviews in the media and on social outlets cos they played nothing but new songs and jammed out on them for up to twenty minutes on some of them.

It's Crazy Horse. If you pay for a Crazy Horse ticket, you're going to get a Crazy Horse show. If you don't know that, it's on you. Shut the fuck up, he's not going to play Harvest Moon.dimejinky99 wrote:Neil and crazy horse played a big outdoor show here last year and got all these terrible reviews in the media and on social outlets cos they played nothing but new songs and jammed out on them for up to twenty minutes on some of them.

I'd love to see him in Cork.

Same here dude... they played a lot of new stuff when I saw them and jammed out on EVERYTHING. The experience was completely surreal.... some of the old farts in the crowd weren't too impressed but whatever.Strat wrote:dimejinky99 wrote:Neil and crazy horse played a big outdoor show here last year and got all these terrible reviews in the media and on social outlets cos they played nothing but new songs and jammed out on them for up to twenty minutes on some of them.

Is it just me... or is it kinda weird that the "old farts" who have probably scene Neil before, are the ones bitching?wtfisaledbetter? wrote:Same here dude... they played a lot of new stuff when I saw them and jammed out on EVERYTHING. and the "young farts" who have possibly never seen Neil, and most likely not with the Horse, the ones who are loving those shows the most? It will be funny when the old farts of the PJ fan base only wanna hear Even Flow / Betterman / Alive. and toss a fit at a concert with Red Mosquito, Satans Bed, Big Wave, and All Or None (just 4 random songs I picked off the top of my head for no reason, although I do love 3 of the 4)

Re: The Official Neil Young Thread
Red Rocks is easily in one of my top five shows, ever, I 'll never forget watching Neil create walls of noise that would make Michael Gira cringe. It was unreal. But what irked me more than seeing Yuppies call out for The Horse to play Old Man (which would probably kick ass), was Yuppies fucking with their cell phones thought the Carnegie Hall show.
It's a beautiful room, show it some respect.

I would love to see somebody with the balls to put up a sign at their shows that says something like:

Is that a documentary or something? I don't think they've shown that over here. I might have to see if it's on YouTube.dimejinky99 wrote:They showed Heart of Gold on tv last night. Really liked some of the Prarie wind songs.

Re: The Official Neil Young Thread
It's a whole show(I fell asleep towards the end, stayed up really late to watch it)
With Neil and I'm presuming a band of Nashville musicians, in front of a live audience. Filmed by Jonathan Demi(?) I think it said.
Really really worth watching. And he's a lot more open in it, telling tiny stories and things.
The one about his dad, you can see him sorta stumble on it. Nice to know he's human.

Yeah, think it was right after the brain scare. He could of died within weeks of filming that one.dimejinky99 wrote:It's a whole show(I fell asleep towards the end, stayed up really late to watch it)
