It didn't do anything for me at first but I enjoyed it a lot when I revisited it a few months later.zeb wrote:I couldn't find much to enjoy in that Atoms For Peace record.

Re: RM's top 25 of 2013
Right. I've been meaning to do this for ages, best I do it now. My plan was to put a lot of thought into it and have it all sorted in order and shit, but as usual I'll do it as a last minute this'll-do thing.
01. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away
02. Endless Boogie - Long Island
03. Lower Plenty - Hard Rubbish
04. Disclosure - Settle
05. Mogwai -Rave Tapes Les Revenants
06. The National - Trouble Will Find Me
07. QotSA - ...Like Clockwork
08. North Mississippi Allstars - World Boogie is Coming
09. The Shouting Matches - Grownass Man
10. Tedeschi Trucks Band - Made Up Mind
11. Mazzy Star - Seasons of Your Day
12. Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
13. I am Kloot - Let it All In
14. PJ - Lightning Bolt
15. Hebronix - Unreal
16. Lorde - Pure Heroine
17. Phosphorescent - Muchacho
18. Blood Orange - Cupid Deluxe
19. Tony Joe White - Hoodoo
20. Kings of Leon - Mechanical Bull
That'll do. There's been other stuff I've enjoyed but haven't listened to enough to qualify and I suspect that when I get a chance to properly check out The Rutabega album from this year I'll be wanting to re-assess, but this will have to be it.
All-in-all a pretty good year for tunes in my opinion. The albums that I love I really love and I feel that's a pretty strong 20 I have listed there.
<edit> Corrected the Mogwai album.

Hate to burst your bubble, Varis, but Mogwai's "Rave Tapes" is a 2014 release, even though it may have leaked in December.

No bursting at all, thanks for the correction. I'll switcheroo it with Les Revenants, which I enjoyed almost as much.Brett wrote:Hat to burst your bubble, Varis, but Mogwai's "Rave Tapes" is a 2014 release, even though it may have leaked in December.
Cheers.
<edit> As an aside, I am horrible when it comes to getting release years correct. I tend to think that any album was released in the year that I first discovered it. Making these lists is always a dodgy proposition for me trying to make sure that I don't somehow throw in a "20th Anniversary Special Edition" or something.

deadlines today, not the actual reveal.Bob Loblaw wrote:So this is getting close, huh?
this might take me a while to tally things up... and that's assuming that plat and chud actually post or pm lists.
in the mean time, why don't we come to some consensus on how you'd like me to present the list:
option 1: all at once, but posted in descending order so you'd have to scroll down the page to get from #25 - #1
option 2: in 5 album chunks, with day 1 being #s 25-20, day 2 #s 19-15, day 3 #s 14-10, day 4 #s 9-5, day 5 #s 4-1.
powers that be can put a poll up if you're so inclined, or just post your choice of option.

The 5 albums a day idea is a good one.

Re: RM's top 25 of 2013
so with the edits-to-previously-posted-lists and new entries being quite minimal since i last took stock of things (translation: this could have been revealed weeks ago), I'll post the first 5 (25-21) Monday.
Some statistical nuggets to hold you over until Monday:
• There were 161 individual albums ranked by RMers
• 117 albums received equivalent to a 1st place vote or less, therefore they likely appeared on only one RMers list.
• There were lists from 19 individual RMers
• There was some movement over the last 3 weeks, but the top 25 stayed the same.

Why don't you post your own list or start a new thread explaining your thoughts about each album and it's standing in your heart at some random (re: later) date. Other folks have waited long enough. The train is arriving on Monday, I'm sorry that it didn't work out that you could be a part of it.
