Stevie Wonder

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

It's pretty amazing, I wouldn't question anyone who called that their favourite Stevie Wonder song.

What are your weaker songs on Talking Book? I have a feeling I underestimated it.

I really like every song on it. It was my favorite for several years before Innervisions moved ahead of it, and even though I think Songs in the Key of Life may have passed it up over the last few months, it's still right there in the same class with those two for me. I don't know that anything on it really qualifies as "weaker" as much as I Believe, Big Brother, Tuesday Heartbreak, Maybe Your Baby, and Superstitious are just mega-highlights.

Actually, Blame it on the Sun and You Are the Sunshine of My Life are also mega-highlights. I guess by default that would make You & I and Looking for Another Pure Love the weaker cuts, but I still think those two are great.

It's a dreamier album than all of his other ones, so that might be why it's not hitting you as instantly as something like Music of My Mind or Songs in the Key of Life.

It's funny, it didn't immediately hit the first time I heard it, although I did enjoy it. But today just before I went out for a haircut I had another look at its tracklist and remembered how much I loved several songs on it (weird how that happens) so right now I'm going to listen again.

I have enjoyed this listen to Talking Book, but its pleasures are much more slow-burning. The best songs, for me, are "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life", "Superstition" and "I Believe."

If anybody's music can make that happen, it's Stevie Wonder's.

Reminds me of the time I rode with the Allman brothers down to New Orleans and met up with this cool bluesy cat name George and we jammed into the wee hours of the morning.

George was a cool motherfucker.

This is really not outside the realms of possibility, friend. I think 'deep joy' is usually a shtick but not from this guy. I believe him.

I'm not gonna lie, Stevie is at the top of the list of artists who I go to when I'm in a really terrible place and feel like I need to start some healing.

This live bootleg is a delight. The playing is outstanding, and the sound is way better than I thought it'd be.

LOVE the doubling-up of the snare on 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered...'.

Yeah, I virtually NEVER listen to bootlegs, but this one really hits the spot when I'm on a Stevie kick.

Kaius, do you still just have that first batch of albums I linked you too? I can link you to the other stuff I've been uploading for harmless if there's stuff up there you need.
