As a side note, the existence of this thread has spared my followers on twitter from so many tweets about Stevie Wonder this past week. It's probably a good thing.

I had a massive Stevie binge in October and November and didn't have anyone who wanted to geek out about it with me, so I'm very grateful for your enthusiasm harmless.

That's so awesome it's stupid.

Imagine being one of the Motown execs who didn't want to give him control, hearing those albums, and knowing in the back of your mind "I tried to stop this dude from making these records..."

Let's speculate, PJ style. Why do you think the instrumental on 'Songs...' is called 'Contusion'?

As we speculate, let's also enjoy this clip of the kind of thing that would only happen in the sixties...

I'm listening to Contusion to aid in my speculation, but it's just making me dance.

But...if I'm not careful, I may bump into something.

Perhaps might even end up with...

Spoiler: show
A CONTUSION!

"Uptight and most definitely out of sight." That thing was fucking delightful!

Rhythmically, it's easy to see how drum and bass has its roots in Motown.

He totally has. He's become a laughing stock in the UK but he had some talent in his heyday.

'Summer Soft' is incredible. You know how some songs appear like filler until you listen again and again.

Yeah. To be fair, it's understandable considering the songs on both sides of it. But when you really get down to it, you realize every single song on Songs in the Key of Life is quality and deserving of being on the record.

The only part of any Stevie Wonder song I'm having real trouble with is the rapey intro to "Keep On Running". Actually the whole song is pretty rapey but especially the bit about jumping out and grabbing her from the bushes.
