Re: Raise your hands if you love Doctor Who!
The last season was pretty much hit and miss. Asylum, Angels, Hide and of course The Name of the Doctor I loved but there were a few stinkers (particularly that Rings of Akaten - that was awful!)
They need to up their game for Capaldi's debut. Give him something to chew on.

Exactly. His pay offs need to be as satisfactory as the build ups.McParadigm wrote:I dunno. Moffat's been solid at setting things up in an interesting way and absolute shit at giving them a proper resolution. I'll just be happy if he doesn't fuck it up completely. I'm also nervous about the return of Sherlock for the very same reason.what are we hoping for the 50th and 11's regeneration?

I don't know if McP or anyone else outside the UK has seen this yet. It looks a bit exciting. That's if it works of course.

I hadn't seen that. It has a nice look to it. Thank you.
I'm really hoping this is well done. I'm reaching a low ebb in my interest in this show. The exit of the Ponds was well conceived but poorly delivered, then we got a long wait and a half season with some of the weakest episodes since reboot, now two "event" pieces and another long wait. It's exactly the kind of drawing out and misfiring that hurt the last stretch of Battlestar Galactica.

My 9yo is about ready to pop with excitement after seeing that. I hope it's at least half as good as the build up implies it should be.

This is probably an accurate summation of my feelings, as well.I hope it's at least half as good as the build up implies it should be.

Tom Baker is the one I think of too. I remember really being into the show when I was little but remember nothing about the actual episodes except for his face and hair. I haven't watched any of the other ones. I probably should give them a try. Maybe when the new one starts.

I apologise to my facebook chums, because i'm always bombarding the newsfeed with Colin Baker videos and fanvids, but I love this one. It really sums up his bitter, yet theatrical performance.

I imagine being a Colin Baker fan is a lonely, lonely place.
I'm still head shaking about how awful that send-off for Matt was. Really, the shows been batting 50% since the Silence arc, but that was a low among lows.

Yeah his send off was a bit disappointing. Not sure what I was expecting but wished Capaldi had a better entrance.McParadigm wrote:I imagine being a Colin Baker fan is a lonely, lonely place.

My problem was more that the entire story was stupid, retconned weirdly vast swaths of side characters, and was classic Moffat "if I run some slo-mo footage and do a voice over telling you it was epic, then that's the same as having an interesting story that you actually get to see."

Also, there's the Doctor, Sherlock Holmes, and 007…what is it with Brits and semi-tragic male characters who are smarter than anybody else in the room and incredibly lonely?

007 certainly is tragic.McParadigm wrote:Also, there's the Doctor, Sherlock Holmes, and 007…what is it with Brits and semi-tragic male characters who are smarter than anybody else in the room and incredibly lonely?
