PryTo wrote:I'd venture that Future Days is the single most annoying vocal performance Ed has ever committed to tape. Nearly every line is just awful. Why does he sing like that? If he just sang it normally it would be a nice little song, but his awful, awful, awful vocal inflections destroy it to the point where it's not only unlistenable, it's downright embarrassing. It's genuinely hard to believe this is the same guy who sang (insert any ballad from the first decade or so here).
I agree, it really doesn't even sound like the same guy. I think Ed was probably abducted and replaced by a clone.

The vocal is the biggest problem with future days?

Seriously?

Could well be, that when EV plays it solo in Oz next week, it all falls into place and is beautiful.
There is precedent. Aplenty.

Getaway is getting heavy airplay here on Mainstream Rock Station and is a great choice for a single. And there is no need to worry about Future Days as it would never be released to radio! See, singles are to intice people to buy the record not stay away from it.

I think Eddie sounds good on future days. Granted I like the song, but I'm not sure what vocal tics or annoyances people here. Ia bland song, sure. A weaker vocal melody, fine. But the singing?

That's not what I said. The piano is the most annoying thing. The vocals are just terrible, but the piano can't be played while I'm in the kitchen as I'm afraid I will find a sharp implement and stab myself.

If Ed ever managed to get 'Damien Rice' I'd be over the moon.

Can someone turn the piano from Future Days into a ringtone? I want to wake up to it every morning so I can think, "Well, the day can only get better from here."
