I tried to get people into this a while back but everyone wants to pretend they're a purist or something equally snobbish.

well, if the idea was brought differently like, say, "post your top 20 or so favorites from the white album" i might comply but a One Disc White Album is another story in which i prefer not taking part. when a singled out song from it on the radio or elsewhere ends, i'm waiting for the next one to begin. the band's longest studio session took place when they made the track order to this and i think that the flow of the album is a work of art unto itself.

Oh jesus you nerds are touchy. Theres so much fat that can be trimmed from this record. It fun (to me, at least) to see what everyone keeps and what everyone tosses. Have fun listening to Obi-Di, fuckwads.

peace and love. peace and love.

Anyway, this is where I got the idea from orginally. Rick Moody (dude who wrote garden state has a really cool essay about Magnetic Fields 69 love songs. (http://www.believermag.com/issues/20030 ... icle_moody)
What about all those guys, and they are mainly guys, who have sat around winnowing The White Album down to a single disc? Well, first you get rid of “Revolution 9,” because it’s too long and too abstract, and then you get rid of “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” despite the fact that one admires McCartney more as one grows older; out with “Bungalow Bill,” out with “Honey Pie,” “Martha My Dear,” because it’s about a dog, etc. Before long, you are left with a record that has on it “Dear Prudence,” “Julia,” “Happiness Is a Warm Gun,” “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Helter Skelter,” “Birthday,” “Everybody’s Got Something to Hide (Except for Me and My Monkey),” “Cry Baby Cry,” “Yer Blues,” and so forth. In short, you’ve got an unbelievably great rock and roll album. Does it do the Beatles a disservice? On the contrary. It indicates the bounty of material from which to choose. This is how some people pass an afternoon.

Sorry friend, but this thread is heresy. There are definitely songs on the White Album that I don't really dig, but I wouldn't cut a single one of them.

My friend just said the same thing. But yeah, I'm not that big a Beatles fan myself.

It's so good, cause everyone's is different but the end result is the same, a damn good album.

It's impossible to strip some songs out of a record that's been around 50 years and has 30 songs on it? It's something I do de facto every time I listen to it by skipping the bloat tracks.
