Good thinking. I prefer to do the same or go with guys who are already retired on the very rare occasion I purchase a jersey anymore (I've probably bought one in the last ten years). I did kinda want to get a Brooks Orpik USA jersey in 2010 though.

I'd go blank over pretty much any active player (I kinda think it's weird when people wear jerseys of dudes who are like 5-10 years younger than them, but to each his or her own), but I think having a guy whose legacy is already written who played when you were younger is pretty cool if it's an option.

That's a pretty cool choice. I bet most Red Sox fans probably go with Williams or Yaz in terms of classic jerseys, right?

I have a #45 Red Sox jersey but it doesn't say Martinez on it.
