"Eddie song" is a pretty liberal interpretation of that song's genesis, methinks.

Interesting, as the sole writing credit on the track belongs to Mike Watt...

yeah, but anyway, the arrangement sounds like something from Ed, specially those days.

Sleeping By Myself has an Ed Ved writing credit, and the LB version is something the band seem to create.

Like i say, its something i hear in the music, besides i wrote that in a hurry...Goddamn this RM purists...

That Eddie's songs don't still sound like Thumbing My Way kind of breaks my heart, team.

Holy fuck they really rode you hard on that one. Don't worry about it, I totally got what you meant.

I was talking about Crazy Mary as a Pearl Jam song when it's obviously not, and same goes for the Zeke and Supersuckers collaborations which I incorrectly dump into my "Pearl Jam B-Sides & Misc" folder.

i'd need to see a list but it is entirely possible that I like every Eddie song since Thumbing my Way more than Thumbing my way.

It's not as if Thumbing My Way is the pinnacle of "Old Ed". It was kind of the end of it. Now its overly picked guitars, sappy lyrics, over the top vocal layering and flourishes.

Thumbing My Way has some of that overpicking too.

It's definitely got better lyrics than the slower songs that followed. But I certainly prefer Just Breathe, The End, and Sleeping by Myself to Thumbing My Way. Shit, I probably like Future Days more too, but that song is pretty bound up with some personal stuff it is hard to separate it out from.

I like most of the vocal flourishes in these newer songs

There are better, similar songs than Thumbing My Way: Off He Goes, All Or None, Man Of The Hour, Dead Man, etc. etc. But TMW is just achingly beautiful to me and is the last PJ song to make me feel a great deal emotionally. This band used to be able to tug at my heartstrings like none other. Now I just go "Yeah... OK."

Correction, MOTH came afterwards (and Dead Man? I dunno).

If you dislike TMW, it is what it is; but it's a pretty quality song even if it's not to your taste.

I don't dislike it. I just think it's kind of flat. The desolate spaces on Riot Act (this and All or None really jump out) leave me feeling pretty disassociated. But I also don't really think it's that quality a song. It's fine. But there are so many similar soft acoustic songs that I think are far more interesting. So it's not exactly like a Sleight of Hand thing for me either, where i don't like the song, but respect it.
