As the tour goes along it will be interesting for me to listen to these shows with fresh ears and see if my memory of being an obsessive 20 year-old Nirvana collector holds up, or if this tour becomes a drag that will eventually bore the living shit out of me. So far so good, but I'm only one show in.

That tv version of Drain You is awesome

That's my second-favorite version of "Drain You" ever. Number one comes later in the tour and is one of very few highlights from an otherwise craptacular show.

Raspy as hell, untrained and amazingly expressive.

This is also a pretty apt description of his songwriting and his relationship with music theory. He is a classic case of instinct preceding skill--he didn't necessarily have any formal training on how chords were supposed to go together, but he knew how songs were supposed to sound, so he was able to create and entire book of widely accessible songs using nothing but his own (very academically unsound) musical language. A class act.

This (both posts) is what made Kurt great and you combine that with Dave on drums (who's had an amazing career) and Krist's hooky base style and you get an amazing band. That's why I always find it ridiculous when people try and say X band was just as good, they just didn't make it. Bullshit, Nirvana was just way better.

I thought so too but Evan Dando claims he never slept with Courtney at all. She was almost certainly sleeping with Billy Corgan, though. Jesus Christ, those two deserve each other.

Some bands, The Who and Led Zeppelin come to mind played the same setlist pretty much every night on tour but always seemed to be passionate about it. They achieved it by vastly different means. Led Zeppelin by exploring within the songs and The WHo by being consumate actors and having the ability to replicate the emotions found within each song.

I think rock music unfairly gets stigmatized for being able to replicate emotions nightly. When it's done well it is overpowering. The Who hitting on all cylinders was a thing to behold.
