I'll answer this: it sounds awesome. TRez spoke out against the Back on Black repress since Interscope did it without his consent and he won't see any money for it. That said, it's a really nice package and sounds fantastic.

If I feel well enough tomorrow (fighting a cold) I am going to buy some records and then eat Chipotle.

I think i'm gonna rummage around and try and find Marvin Gaye's Here, My Dear. There is no greater fuck you album out there. Half the royalties went to his wife for alimony.

Is That Enough is such a great song in that genre. Marvin was full blown coke head by this time though, so his voice is less Marviney.

This happens far too often when I go record shopping. Glad I'm not the only one.
The correct answer to this problem is... get rid of all your CDs!
I've...I've thought about doing this recently. I probably want to hold on to some things (Pearl Jam bootlegs, certain things that have DVDs), but I honestly haven't looked at things like my Nirvana CDs, Soundgarden CDs, heavy metals CDs, or CDs by bands I don't even listen to anymore. I don't think I'd even spend the time doing eBay auctions for these; maybe just give them to Goodwill?

My cousin used to work for a major record label (Sony, I think, but it might have been Universal) and she jumped ship because she could tell that the advent of digital music might cause her executive job to disappear; she has a nice cushy job now with Hard Rock International. Anyways, she has a storage locker in NYC somewhere that holds about ten thousand CDs and she says she cannot give them away; last time we spoke, she was still paying monthly for them to collect dust.
'
Before I moved into our current house I put up a large lot on Craigslist and sold about 150 in one shot for $1-each. I don't miss them at all. Like you said, I only keep PJ stuff, and a few artists. THe doubled-up classic rock is gone (Zeppelin, Beatles, etc) as is most of the 90's stuff. I don't think that CDs will retain collectability like vinyl did.

I knew that Fisher turntable might be too good to be true.

I put a Waylon Jennings record on today and the right channel sounded awful. Full of distortion and sound that cut in and out intermittently. Thinking that it was the record, I put the new Nick Cave on. Same thing. So then I hooked up my old turntable to make sure that it wasn't the speaker, and everything sounded like it should.

Also, this happened over night. Yesterday, my records sounded fine. It might be worth noting that my anti-skating has been set to near 0. When the turntable was sounded good, taking the anti-skate above 0 would add distortion. Have I been doing long term damage to my arm or needle?

What's going on here?

I more or less figured the immediate problem out. Upon close examination, the needle was tilted to one side. After carefully adjusting it with a pair of tweezers, everything sounds good again.

So I'm guessing that I have something balanced wrong, and this will continue to happen. Why else would the needle get pulled to one side over time?

Sounds like your stylus/cart is toast. That shouldn't happen... unless maybe you have way too much weight and it's gouging the needle down. In which case you're also trashing your records at the same time.

What kind of cart is it? Perhaps you can just replace the stylus and it'll be ok.

When I finish my exams at the end of April, there are three things I want to treat myself to: a new bird, a new turntable, and a new PS3. If I could only get two of the three...should I definitely get the turntable?

I would. PS3 will be outdated by the end of the year. A turntable is timeless.
