Re: Gearhead Thread
After much searching, I went ahead and bought a Gibson Flying V bass. I know in the past I thought it sucked in comparison to a Fender Jazz, but I kept playing it every time I saw one, it really grew on me, and they finally slashed the price to the point I couldn't pass it up. I'm stoked. One of my goals this year is to record a lot, weekly in fact. Now I have a real bass I'm sure I'll be able to stick it out.

I might be able to get to an E-bow.

Thanks, dude. The fact that you don't see them all that much on stage was a bit of a selling point. That and them being a limited run. What sucks is I've only been able to write and record a couple things since getting it.

Oh man I always wanted a V bass. Totally impractical for me but they look amazing and sound pretty much like a p bass to me. Well done, sir.

Re: Gearhead Thread
I think I'm gonna buy a Tele with the money leftover from my house remodel (turns out I'm good enough at that shit not to contract EVERYTHING out and save some cash).
I don't want to buy something that sounds totally neutered though. I know there are those of you who know what I mean....

Do it. I bought a Les Paul Classic years and years ago, and its my main instrument, but I bought a Mexican Tele a year or two ago for a fraction of the cost and its just as great of a guitar as the overpriced Classic.verb_to_trust wrote:I think I'm gonna buy a Tele.

Re: Gearhead Thread
Behold!
the mighty ORANGE quarter stack
i love this little amp. sounds great even at bedroom volume. i brought it up to my rehearsal space the other night and plugged it and my Mesa Dual Rec into my Randall 412 which can run in stereo (each amp gets 2 speakers) and it made for a foolishly good pairing.

Re: Gearhead Thread
honestly i haven't fussed with the cleans much. if i keep the gain where i like it (between 1-2 oclock) and i back off the volume on my guitar quite a bit it's still pretty gritty. but my guitars all have pretty high output pickups. with the gain a little lower it's probably got a usable clean. not a glassy fender clean but something usable for sure.Self wrote:Want.

Re: Gearhead Thread
Yeah, I'd love to try one out. A few years back, I almost pulled the trigger on an Epi Valve Jr. Not enough guts, though. All I have are high output pups, too. But the LP's separate volume control/3-way switch come in quite handy for such things. I wouldn't expect it to do the pristine clean sound, but if I could get away with a few clean enough picked chords here and there...sold.mf wrote:honestly i haven't fussed with the cleans much. if i keep the gain where i like it (between 1-2 oclock) and i back off the volume on my guitar quite a bit it's still pretty gritty. but my guitars all have pretty high output pickups. with the gain a little lower it's probably got a usable clean. not a glassy fender clean but something usable for sure.Self wrote:Want.

one day, maybe I'll understand what you're talking about..until then I'll just plug it in and play in a mediocre styleSelf wrote:Yeah, I'd love to try one out.
