I don't see why not, better than this whatever else happened in the previous 462 pages.

It's just a shame how things turned out, you know? Who would've thought, etc.

Haha. Right thread? I don't think so. but you're right, there's a huge difference in those 2 videos. Everyone sounds better in the older version, and Eds train wreck was hard to watch.

I've mentioned this once before, I think, but the way they've approached the feel and mood of their concerts now makes songs like Sleight of Hand almost impossible to portray well, even on a performance that doesn't have a huge fuckup. The approach the concerts like they're the house band at a kegger, which can work for a lot of their songs. But it doesn't work for all of them, including a lot of their best work. How are they going to slot Sleight of Hand into the middle of a house party and have it come off well?

It makes me wish that they would do that theater tour they've talked about sporadically for the past 15 years; at least then they'd be forced into using the muscles that will make songs like this one come across effectively.

That being said, I've never heard a live version of this song that can match the devastation of the studio version when that first chorus chord kicks in.

Seeing the band a few weeks ago was very much a "we're looking down on Pearl Jam, only that's not Pearl Jam; isn't that weird?" moment.

I've never before been underwhelmed at a Pearl Jam show, thinking "geez, still two more hours of this" after only a handful of songs.

While it might've just been an off night, all of the recent bootlegs give me a similar feeling. They're a markedly different band now than they were in even 2006.

That is incredible. The guitars are subtle and allowing the song to breathe, allowing the song to - be the song.

THere is no "he FUCKING knew by heart!!!"

MIke and Stone are living inside the song and creating it instead of going through the motions.

Whatever, seacrest out.
Well, this performance was great. So vulnerable and emotional and ugh.

This band used to make me FEEL SO HARD.

I dont think it's so much the band that has changed. In my opinion most of our criticism is just due to Ed's vocal struggles. Of course there are a few more mistakes in recent concerts but 90% of the below average quality of new boots is just because of Ed not sounding too good.

Heard it in Grand Rapids in 06. He did the "Fuckin" addition but i remember it being very good. They did a nice mellow mini set.

The only one that knows what he's doing is Matt. He seems comfortable with these songs featuring odd time signatures. I would ask for more of them, but I don't care enough anymore.

Because obviously Black is going to be comparable to this version of the song.

I have a strange love / hate relationship with this version.

That trainwreck version notwithstanding, "Sleight of Hand" really is one of this stupid band's greatest songs.
