Add me to the list of people who wishes they hadn't faded it out, and that Mike had discovered the solo potential in the studio, not on tour. If it was the same song on the record as it is live, I think it would be a 5-star for me. As it is, a 4.

I don't think failed to spot the solo potential, I think BoB probably refused to allow it.

That seems awfully cynical, considered all the soloing he "allowed" on earlier records. Also, I've heard Mike in an interview discussing how he realized that potential during the first few live shows and was thrilled to be able to open up the song that way.

BoB said that he doesn't really like solos; you'll have to find the quote.

As for what he allowed on other records, yeah, he did used to be better at compromising with the band.

Is a great song live, despite its something they have tried and did better in the past. I like the studio version, it has some edge, some teeth....but that fade is atrocious. I dont understand that fade at all, and i would like to ask the band why they did that, they took one one of the most rocking moments of the album away, in fact it might be the last of those moments in the album.

Live is a different beast, and i hope the last jam to continue to grow and develop.

The studio version has no teeth at all. No edge. The production is atrocious all around. Lots of potential but BOB neutered it. the guitars are buried under overblown VEdder Vocals and "ting ting ting" keyboards.

Lightning Bolt is the new U.S single and Getaway elsewhere. Interesting that the band went this way.

the fact that one is getting played in the US, and the other is getting played not in the US?

Huh? Pretty stupid reply mate...clever stuff. Anyway the sources are out there if anyone wants to search the engines.

I honestly can't get over how some people are THAT clever.

Dammit. I always forget that if you talk cryptically enough about week old information, it sounds like you've got your ear to the ground.

Message received.

Is it just me or is there the slightest touch of lasers/vocodery going on in ed's vocal for 'you gotta know you'll never let her go'?

I sort of wish this one had been the album opener.

Try some live versions. It's the only way to listen to this one. The studio cut is downright horrible.
