I believe 12PM EST. And Tavares is done for the Olympics (and probably more) with a knee injury.

That's awful. Not the end of the world for Canada, since he didn't do a whole lot and they have Duchene, but it's obviously bad. Sucks even more for Isles fans.

Our season was basically over anyway. But they'll be unwatchable if he's out the rest of the year, given Vanek will be gone too.

Now apparently he is done for the season. Ouch.

It'd be a lot worse if the Islanders were currently the 7th or 8th seed and then fell out. Reading the freak out on twitter is pretty entertaining.

I doubt it. I don't see any value in sending them to South Korea. I'd rather see another World Cup any way.

I'd say no on the nhlers, which I think is a good thing. Another good thing would be a usa-canada brawl :nice:

I guess I missed out on the discussion about not having NHLer's in the next Olympics. Whats the story with that?

League doesn't want to shut down

I don't understand why the league can't keep going without the guys going to the Olympics...happens in soccer all the time...you're talking what, 4-5 games tops for each team to be missing guys?

Those 4-5 games could be the difference between sneaking into the playoffs or not....

Im more concerned of the Olympics being held in South Korea :shake:

Yeah, I don't think you can play an NHL season without some of its best stars.

Makes no financial sense for the NHL to shutdown.

The conspiracy theory was that the NHL was ready to block players from playing in this year's games, but decided against it since the Russian players were going over there to play regardless.

I'd leave the pros out of it and give the kids a chance. Feel the same way about basketball

That's one of the things I don't understand. Would they send just college kids or would it be anyone not on an NHL contract? I think it would be better with non-NHL players. The US and Canada would be at a disadvantage, but it would be interesting to see how a hybrid U-20 team from those countries would do against other countries which would basically be made up of pros.

That time zone is going to be even worse for some of us. It will be impossible to stay spoiler free. For me, that's what's really ruined the experience this year. The time difference is just brutal, but it is what it is...

Story out of Sochi is that Vanek was the ringleader in being out with a group of his teammates until 6am the night before their elimination game.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.
