Upgraded my old Rega Planar 3 to the new Rega Rp3:

The difference is night and day with my old table. The quiet passages are pitch-black-silent, with much better speed/pitch than I was used to.

I'm going to try the Denon DL-110 cart next which is currently on my other table, but after that I may consider going back to a proper Rega cartridge.

Looking at these new turntables just makes me want to upgrade mine, but I'm just not sure it'd be worth it...

This came today, and it was totally worth it. Both upper corners of the sleeve are busted down, but the media is in great shape, and it sounds amazing (the new table is probably helping with this); I've never heard the bass on this album like this.

LB sounds fantastic. They did a great job mastering for vinyl.
Yellow Moon is one of the best sounding recordings they've done since All or None. And the song is pretty damn good too!

It was the first song I went to play once I had everything setup.

Have you spinned the Red one at all?

Not yet but now that I'm up and running again I'm going to compare the red and also the Sevens 45's.
I expect the Sevens box will sound even better but after all this would you believe I don't have a fuckin' 45 adapter?! It's the cheapest accessory you can get for your turntable and somehow I lost mine and never got around to replacing it.

You need an adapter these days?

It's not like there's been much competition in that time period.

If you go from a shitty cartridge to a nice one, it'll make a world of difference.

I would say the cartridge on that is probably going to be the weakest link in the table. Not to say it's going to sound bad, but for all the features you get for that kind of price I would say they didn't give you a high quality cart. If you upgrade look into carts from Shure, Audio Technica, Grado, and Ortofon in the $75 or more range and you should hear a striking difference in sound quality. I have the Ortofon Red and it sounds incredible.

I'll soon have my fathers old marantz2250b in play so perhaps that and a cartridge upgrade will suit me just fine.
